Preferred bullet weight for 7mm Rem Mag?

Deer do not run off when shot with 160g sierra btsp, brother, dad, and I have killed a box car full. I have seen one buck run, shot was 320 yards with him chasing a doe. He stopped for a split second and I nailed him..ran 40 yards. 160g sierra btsp is a great shortish range bullet.

I said it once, and will say it again. The 175g Nolser LRAB is worth building a rifle around. Near and far, deer get some serious holes knocked in them.

I got a ruger m77 mk2 skeleton and it loves 162gr hornady boat tail interlocks. I am pushing them with 61 grains of rl26.. I don't know the mv is but it isn't to hot and recoil is not bad. It will put a 3 shot group at around 3/8". No more than 5/8" on any given day. Also have a 150 accubond lr load that is around 1/2" with imr 4831 can't right off remember charge weight. And a screaming load with berger 150gr classic hunters with berger recommended 65gr of RL26. This loaf doesn't show any pressure signs in my rifle but I do recommend you load up to that load for it by far is the stoutest load I will ever run in it. It is a true cannon with it.

Those 7MM Rem Mags are very tolerant of bullet weights between 120 and 170 grains +/-, (with the correspondingly suited powder), so it really depends on what kind of bullet you want to use and what you intend to hunt with it. Be aware that the lead-free bullets such as Barnes are longer for weight and lighter bullets stabilize as would a heavier bullet made of lead core. As such, I use either 120 or 140 Barnes with Reloader 22 powder (I'm hunting deer and pigs) and actually get better accuracy than the heavier, lead bullets. It doesn't hurt that great penetration, lower recoil and flatter trajectory out to normal deer hunting distances come along with it. If choosing a leaded bullet, I found that almost universally, the "mid-weight" bullets of around 150-155 grains provided the best accuracy, though if I were shooting elk, big bears, etc., I'd go heavier. I shoot the exact same load of 120 grain Barnes in my Browning BAR semi-auto , Ruger 77 and BAT custom bolt guns - all 5/8" MOA or less.
