I'm putting together a single-shot 6BR live varmint/pronghorn rifle. Years ago my wife gave me a Jewell trigger for my Rem 700V .222, but I couldn't use the trigger because it would disqualify me for the local factory BR class. In considering my options for an action that would work with the Jewell's top safety, and be appropriate for a walking varmint/pronghorn rifle, I quickly settled on Jerry Stiller's Predator.
On 19 November I sent Jerry a deposit check. About a week later I noticed that the PredatorV was coming on line at Stiller's -- a RBLP version of the Predator with a coned bolt, Sako-type extractor, no ejector, and slightly tighter,~0.003") bolt body clearance. I sent an email to Jerry right away, and he changed my order to the PredatorV.
Santa made an early stop at my FFL on 16 December, less than a month after sending a deposit!), and yesterday I drove through a blizzard to pick up the action. It was worth it,see photos)!
Thanks to Jerry and crew for making such a beautiful, affordable,$760, delivered) piece of art. Jerry also took the time to answer several emailed questions -- hard to better the service and quality from Stiller's Precision.
Thanks also to Gary at Talley who provided the unitized lighweight alloy base/rings -- a perfect fit for the action and for the Sightron 6.5-20x42 that I'll be using. BTW, the Predator uses either 2 Rem 700 front bases, where the 700 receiver is round), or bases made for the Savage action, which is round at both ends. Jerry has a Picatinny rail for the PredatorV for those who prefer that sort of scope base.
Many of the other 6mmbr.com advertisers/sponsors have pitched in, too. Randy Robinett sent me a few 95gr BIBs, and Tom Reddin at bulletsamples.com sent me a few Berger 95 VLDs, to mock up some rounds for Hugh Henriksen to set the freebore on my 6BR reamer. Amy Bruno let me know when the latest 6BR brass order arrived. Midway had the H-S varmint stock on sale. A Krieger 1-9 barrel in Rem varmint contour is on the way.
I'll bet that Jerry sells a bunch of these PredatorV actions -- all the advantages of a Rem 40X with additional benefits of left port loading, coned/fluted bolt, Sako extractor, stainless steel, side-mounted bolt release, and no need for truing.
