Predator Mouth Calls

If you want to own the absolute best sounding, easiest to use howler {it's gotta be because I can do it perfectly!!!} go over to predatormasters.com and look in the "custom calls" section of the forum. There's a guy who's handle is "ultramag"...pm him and ask about the howler he makes with the mouthpiece that has a latex band around it. He attaches it to a buffalo horn and can carve and color anything you want in it...best sounding, most realistic howler ever. Doesn't have that duck call like "buzz" of the open reed calls.

I agree with OneBad that the guy blowing whatever call makes the difference. I've found that practice doesn't hurt either especially after having some bridge work done at the dentist office.

Another call that I take with me wherever I go, is the back of my hand. By kissing it with my lips, I have called a few, and used that sound to stop dogs that were starting to circle. With very little practice, you can make several appealing sounds that carry surprisingly far. I've tested it on my own dog.

One time when quail hunting, I spotted a pair of young coyotes ranging away from me about two hundred yards out. I immediately gave a few lip squeals with the back of my hand and one of them wheeled around and ran back to me. I dumped him at about ten yards with my 20 gauge and #8 quail shot. My bird dog was as surprised as the coyote.

I used to hear a similar sound just before briefing, coming from the Sergeants office. I don't think he was a hunter. But the other guy in there usually got the easy assignments. Maybe he wasn't kissing his hand, but it sure drew in the varmints.

In the past I've used the "Circe" mouth call with great results. Don't even know if they are still in business.
