I was introduced to Precision Air Guns in my Junior/Senior years of HS as a supplement to my JROTC Smallbore Rifle Team. Since our school had no onsite Smallbore Range, we were in constant need of scheduling Smallbore Practice at other schools within our County. This was a logistical issue solved in part by building an Air Gun Range in one of the satellite bldgs behind the school. Since my particular bus schedule delivered me to school just over an hour before classes began, I used at least 2 of those days each week to practice my weakest position, Offhand.
My Smallbore scores improved overall and I was smitten. We shot FWB 300 series .177 rifles and HyScore 816 Air Pistols (whole new world for me). Vowed I would own both someday. Actually earned my NRA Distinguished Expert Air Rifle award with that FWB.
I have gone through a few over the many decades since. Bought my own HyScore 816 right out of Basic Training on leave and before my AIT. Later bought an Air Arms Khamsin in .177 for plinking/squirrel hunting.
Wanted more power for hunting, so bought a Diana Model 48. Sold the Khamsin to a fellow MP.
While very powerful, it was unforgiving of less than perfect hold in field shooting. Good rifle overall though. Gifted it to my Brother.
Found a nice used FWB 300 (Running Boar?) on Rimfire Central, as well as an FWB 65 Air Pistol. There went the savings account

.
Still shooting both after 20+ years.
Again, in search of more power, I bought an HW 97 in .20/5MM for field shooting. Very forgiving of imperfect holds and good enough energy for small game (and one unlucky Groundhog).
They all have been instrumental in keeping me sharp when range trips were impractical/impossible.
