Precision Air Rifles

Hand pumping a PCP is not a big deal for the reasonably fit. If you can do 20 pushups, or a handful of pull-ups, and walk a couple miles without resting, you can hand pump a PCP. If you realistically cannot do these things, you will need another method of filling your reservoir, and it might get expensive.
I agree with this statement^^^ I'm in great physical shape and from 0 to 3600 psi on my guns is right at 130 ish pumps. I'm feeling the burn at that point and the pump is very hot, so we both need a break ; ) Compressor is wise for the older crowd. I can get 85-90 shots from that fill on the low power setting and 30-35 high power shots with the hammer spring (power) turned up.

I'll add that if you are smaller frame, it's even harder. My 125lb son does not weigh enough to fill more than 2500 psi. He can jump on the pump handle and it will hold him up. The pump stroke is very long on these high pressure pumps so that's another thing to consider. I think they are definitely made for a 6' tall person.

Im a pcp guy. I have FX, daystate and brococks. Daystate is about 3 levels above fx and brocock is the fx equiv. Dont count on a dive shop, they cant fill your tank to the right pressure. You need a 4500psi scba tank and either a friendly fire dept or a compressor. I bought an expired scba tank, a compressor and all the fittings to fill and it wasnt bad. You can hand pump the lower end guns but dont even waste your money on a 250bar gun. A good daystate like a red wolf or delta wolf will outshoot rimfire guns at 50, 75 and 100yds. I have an fx crown thats right there with it. Airguns of arizona is my vendor of choice and they have very good videos on youtube showing all the models. If you want to shoot closer be sure you get a scope that will focus in close. I use an mtc optics but the airgun sites will have plenty in all price ranges

I started out with this compressor. It is liquid cooled and highly recommended by AOA. It worked fine, never an issue, and comes with one rebuild kit. I wish it was 110v but it comes with the converter and would work if you were out without electricity.

This one looks suspiciously familiar and is way cheaper. I suspect this is china striking back selling the compressor they make for omega out the back door for half price with different paint and a few less features.

Now i have a daystate compressor. Its pro quality and very fast. Fast means expensive. I only recommend this route if you got buddies needing air or are running matches. The 220v one is very fast, the 110v is obviously easier.

I see lots of videos of the cheap ebay and amazon compressors and if i was to do it again id buy cheaper ones and just throw them away if needed and get another. They say the trick is letting them cool off. After 15-20mins or once you get above 3500psi or so they get so hot you cant get near them. To actually fill an scba tank and be able to fill your gun from one youll need an adapter. I use the stikman.

I have a Feinwerkbau 300 that I bought from Doan Trevor, I use it to eliminate evasive pigeons at my place. Very accurate, head shots.

If you are going to buy a "springer" buy a German made one.. Can be resold and they are built well..
Airgun Nation is an airgun forum its a good ole boy forum where a few can by with anything and others are censored.. AND but lots of BS people on there with BS agenda... Just so you know..
The RWS Diana is awesome and super solid and heavy. Takes out barn rats no problem. I shot 30+ in one night using the ATN X sight 2 night vision scope on top of it.

I had a air venturi, PcP bullpup, 10 round magazine & ran about $400, 22 cal and it was very, very accurate, Pcp pumps are $300 and up over $1500
I tried the new gas pump break actions and they are recoil heavy compared to any pcp air gun and longer in length.
I like shorter pcps for basement, backyard shooting and easier to carry in thick willows popping rabbits.
Most have barrel moderators so the bark is very low.
You want one that is regulated in which the velocity remains pretty even over shot strings. You can spend 300 to 6k on PcP rigs

Go PCP
Buy a tank alum or composite
A charge on a tank will last you probably 2 years
We get one filled and inspected for under $30
I think we bought a new alum one for $175.
Find a dive shop close by and go see what they have.
Enjoy

Invasive Iguanas are such a problem, communities have hired air gun shooters to eliminate them . They take a good wallop and accurate placement. I dont hunt anymore but have a Hatsan 44-10 qe in 25 cal and love it . I have been shooting air rifles for over 10 yrs just to keep trigger time up . Most are 10 meter co2 . My newest is a Hammerili 472 match rifle .
I have a lot of respect for the inexpensive QB78 or AR2078 , co2 rifles . Very accurate and inexpensive.

I have FWB rifles, 124, 300, 601, all springer and very accurate. Thinking of getting a RWS 75, very rare, a friend selling one. When I first bought these rifles, pellets were $5 for 500. Now they are $15 and up. Still cheaper that 22LR.

What kind of gun are you talking about? An aluminum tank from a dive shop wont even fire an upper end airgun. And 4500psi in a scba tank dont last a very long time, maybe one good shooting match or session

I will chime in on this thread for sure! I'm also known as Mark611 on the GTA air gun forum, go look me up! Not bragging in any way, but I will say I have owned just about every kind of air gun out there, PCP's and all, I am mainly a springer guy, and currently own about 10k in spring piston air guns, mainly HW spring guns, I can tune them and replace triggers with custom triggers and whatever I want to do with them, I will tell you first do not buy a cheap air gun! a good rifle will cost you anywhere between $350 and up for decent quality and good accuracy in the right hands, most of my HW rifles will shoot a 10 shot group half the size of your pinky nail @30yds easily! I have taken G-Hogs @ 75 to 80yds with a spring gun, mainly the upper end models that will chunk a 14.3gn .22cal pellet a 800fps or faster, these newer rifles are not the BB guns of the old days, I'm 60yrs old and have been shooting these BB guns my whole life, I know what works and what to stay away from so if you want any advice on these air guns all you need to do is ask!

Dusty, I agree with you on the Aliuminum Scuba tank. Most fill to 2200 PSI or so. My dive shop can fill to 4500 PSI provided the SCBA tank is still in Manufacturer 15-year date and still has a current 5-year cert. Out of date tanks they won't refill. The first SCBA tanks I bought had 9-years left on the Manufacturer date and had 4-years left on the certification tag. I paid $50 a piece for them. I had those recertified last year, and they all passed for a $35 re-cert fee including a fresh refill. I use a couple of these tanks a year shooting Ground Squirrels (sage rats), pigeons, and Jack rabbits.

The interesting comment to me was your comment about the SCBA tanks not lasting long. I have (3) 66 cu ft SCBA tanks. I get (48) shots from six 8-shot magazines in my FX .25 cal Wildcat before needing to refill the air rifle reservoir tank at a 150 bar (2000) PSI. I refill it to 3300 PSI (230) bar. Using this method I get at least eighteen refills from the SCBA tank (down to 3000 PSI) before taking it to the dive shop and having it refilled. I just looked up the Pyramyd Air's tank caculaor using my info and I should get (19) refills according to them. About (800+) shots between the $18 refill cost. To me that's pretty cheap. Pellets are about $.04/shot.

I was replying to the guy that said an aluminum tank will last years. An aluminum tank filled at a dive shop wont even turn my electronics on. When you shoot the hi power guns tanks dont last long

Yes the statement about a SCUBA tank is just not true.. My AL SCUBA tank is filled to 200 bar / 3000 psi.. Will fill my FX air rifle tank many times.. Max fill on my FX rifles are 200 bar. Other brand PCP's ( Daystate) have a high pressure fill for the tank...
