Pre purchase inspections for vintage cars

Hope this is ok… I don’t know any forums more likely to have people that know what they are talking about on this lol

looking at a 67 convertible mustang for my wife, found one that checks all the boxes, v8, manual, vert, deep green. Problem is I’m in NC and it’s in Beverly Hills.

anyone had a pre purchase inspection on a car you can’t get to before? I don’t want to buy this and it shows up and it’s garbage

Car in Beverly Hills? Can you say $$$$$??
Might check in with the NSRA. (National Street Rod Association)
Havn't been a member for a while but they put out a Red book that listed all the members and who to contact if you broke down or got into a bind while out on the road. Might be able to hook up with someone locally (In BH) that could set you up or at least, point you in the right direction. Better than buying a "Pig in a Poke". And me? I'am from Missouri. I have to see it to believe it.
Pig in a Poke? Been there, done that () but being in the repair business for 50 + years, I knew how to fix what was needed. Seeing is believing.;)

Yes, I have had pre inspections done on a few cars I bought and one that I did not buy. For a vintage Mustang I am sure there are a few places in LA that will do your inspection. I would search the net for shops with good reputations or contact a Car Club and ask the question. You could even find a Mustang forum and ask there. I do not recommend using the sellers garage for the inspection.

On those old cars don't get blinded by the fancy paint. Take it somewhere they have a car lift and look at whats going on under the car.
It’s at a classic shop and they have confirmed they will put it on a lift for the inspector the bottom is what I’m most concerned about, the body seems good.

Thanks I just joined a vintage mustang forum to see if they have recommendations. Most of the companies I find online have great google reviews and terrible yelp reviews.

Luckily I’m a trophy husband and I’m just spending her money anyway lol

I'd focus on a body shop that can check for rust and accident damage that was covered by bondo and new paint. Mechanical repairs are cheap compared to structural damage and rust

Good point, going over the body with a soft rag and a magnet will show up thick bondo. These cars are unibody so a visual inspection under the car can show damage and patches usually. Also an inspection of the reveals (gaps between the body panels) is another indication of the body work.

Awesome thanks guys, I found an inspector that seems to focus on panel gaps, structural rust, if stuff is original etc and is going to put it on a lift and go through it tomorrow. We will see what it turns up!

In addition to the underside have the inspector carefully look at the cowl. Mustangs are notorious for having rusted out cowls and then you get water leaking into the car. The cowl is a difficult area to see and difficult to repair. Good Luck

Nice ride. Yes, my last fun car was from halfway across the country. I had a pre purchase inspection done. i asked a local mechanic for a trusted person in that area and it worked out
