Thursday Checkup and Small Prayers Answered

Journal entry by Patrick Schaller — 6 hours ago

Just a quick update tonight, I’m not the beautiful writer my wife is!
Jedi has hoods weekly labs and checkup here in La Crosse and it went very well. Another doctor encouraged by how he’s doing!
His platelets are back to normal kid levels and most everything else improved or stayed ,about, the same. His neutrophils went up but not quite enough so they will check again on Monday. If they have not gone up enough over the weekend they will delay Chemo Round 2 for one week.
Today was the first time, since his diagnosis, that I wasn’t at his appointment. It was hard though in the end it was apparently the hardest on Papa as Jedi took it in stride like he does everything. Well everything except his medicine that is...
He called me afterwards and said, “I’m kicking cancers butt Papa!” He said it with that, oh so familiar, Jedi grin in his voice!
Yet further proof that no matter how big or how small the prayer the Lord hears all and answers in his most perfect ways. How could I not be happy, and have my soul quieted, after hearing that smile!
Good night and God Bless!

I just took supper to Jedi and family, Jedi looks awesome.
They all asked for your prayers (not that you havent already been praying ) so that Jedi's Neutophils count come up so he can continue 2nd round of Chemo, the get up to Madison for Bone Marrow transplant.
Dianna also said because last test might be non conclusive that there still may be a match in the family. Thats great news.
Thanks everyone.
Michael

Change of plans

Journal entry by Dianna Schaller — 4 hours ago

We went into yesterday morning with a lot of prayers behind us for a sufficient ANC (neutrophil count). We also prayed for peace if that count was not what we wanted it to be. If it was not at least 750 we would need to postpone his chemo for a week. Jedi’s body likes to focus on certain cell types and in these last few weeks he has been focusing on making platelets. They are completely normal now at 296,000! His red blood cells, hemoglobin, and hematocrit are all increased as well (although not normal). That being said his ANC was 400, so we need to let his body recover for another week before we start his second chemo round. We have plans, but the Lord has better. “The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
We certainly like to focus on the positives here in the Schaller house, so we are excited that Jedi is feeling well enough to go on small hikes, bike rides, play with his piggies, ride his ATV and play with his brothers. We are going to have a nice week doing those things! We wish you all a great Independence Day holiday and thank you all for your continued prayers! We certainly “Thank God… As I remember you”... 2Timothy 1:3.
Blessings to you from the Schaller house!

An unexpected turn

Journal entry by Dianna Schaller — 9 hours ago

We were told there would be unexpected twists and turns during this journey. Well, we took a twist on Monday with the delay in his chemo, and today we took another unexpected turn. This turn is harder to accept.
Jedi was a little more tired this morning and took a nap on the floor at about 10 am. He told me he woke up at 4 am and then went back to sleep until 6 am. I thought he just must be extra tired. He seemed okay until about 3:30 when he said he was cold. I pulled him into a hug and noticed he felt a bit warm. I took his temperature and it was 100.8. I called the clinic right away and they said he needed to come in to have bloodwork and antibiotics. It was so hard to see his tears as we told him we needed to go to the hospital. He really loves being at home with his brothers, but we assured him it was the best thing for him right now.
When we arrived they drew blood for cultures and CBC. His neutrophil count dropped to 300 and that along with fever is cause for admission to the hospital. So here we are for at least 48 hours. We need to see what Jedi’s fevers will do. The cause at this point is unknown: viral, bacterial, or the cancer.
His fever is up to 102.3 now. My heart hurts for Jedi. He just told me the other day he hates fevers. I don’t blame him. They cause him to be miserable. We just keep encouraging him that his body is fighting.
Please join with us in prayer that Jedi is on the mend soon, and that we can return home.
For now we ask: “O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble.” Isaiah‬ ‭33:2‬
