I did discover the biggest trick with the .17HMR is called Boresnake... I have 2 5-shot mags. It gets snaked every 10 rds.. Makes a big difference/! In mention to my daughter getting the 250yd doggies.. They were 1st shot kills, but many misses as well.. Still makes a Dad proud! Wanted to go out this morn... :'(, windy and drizzly...

Been to South Dakota (Winter) several times in the past. State license and permits expensive.

$37 for non-resident if I recall. Doesn't seem too expensive to me.

Might want to try western North Dakota also. I think you need to pay a small fee for permit to hunt them, but give ND GAME AND FISH a call

The plague has whipped out a lot of the dog towns in Wyomingand some outfitters have stopped offering hunts. I would suggest careful questioning of any outfitter you book. They will come back but it will take a little time. They never all die just most or a lot

Was out three weeks ago checking out the prairie dog towns in the area I live in . There were a lot of inactive holes which I expected. Plague and poison started to reduce the p dog population about four years ago. One p dog town a few miles from where I live now has weeds growing on the mounds, no p dogs. Shot eleven p dogs with the 221 Fireball rifle on the 20 some mile drive checking out four p dog towns. I dont expect to do much shooting this spring in the part of western Nebr. were I live.

I'm starting to think that asking where to shoot prairie dogs is like asking about a guys prize fishing spot.
