PRAIRIE DOG PLAGUE IN MONTANA?

Thanks for your response---discouraging for sure. I presume the snow is melted and access is good?
Have you tried the Baker area---I have heard good things in the past.

The snow is gone and the ground is drying out. Raining here today but we need it for the grass. I have not tried Baker yet.

I shot the grasslands in Wyoming two years and there were pd's everywhere. Last year they had the plague go thru and there were none to be found. Same with some of the ranches nearby.

Going to to drive from Denver to North Idaho tomorrow. Planning on some side trips on the way to scout for dogs.
Hope I can find some.

Don't get stuck. Wyoming is raining now and I can tell you from experience if the road aint gravel you will get stuck.. It's a mess out there right now. Around here most of the county roads are impassable..

Yep
It was muddy two weeks ago when I drove out. Mud and snow. There were some places I held my breath when i drove through some tracks that had 24'' deep ruts in the mud. Drilling crews made a mess. 4 wheel drive just gets you further out to get stuck. Too old for that:mad:

Well after putting 2200+ miles on my truck my quest for finding dirt rats turned into a bust.
I saw more buffalo than dogs. Lots of speed goats and deer so those are in abundance.
All the dog town mounds I saw were vacant and mounds were washed out. No new dirt on top of any of them.
Never saw one in ether Wyoming or Montana. None, Nada, Zero. Its drying out pretty fast thanks to the never ending wind so roads and tracks are a little better but still in bad shape.:(

Just got back from a pd trip west of Havre MT. My two favourite towns have been wiped out by the plague. I did find a number of smaller towns and had fair success but wind and rain didn't help. Here's hoping the plague is contained. I plan to go back in Sept when it cools down somewhat and have another go at the little critters.

A friend and his companion shot around Ashland MT the first of June... Lot of shooting there he said. They came home early after all their ammo was gone.

A friend and I went towards Baker yesterday and had a blast, got in to some towns that hadn't been shot at in a while so we just went to town on them. In about an hour we already had shot over 100. Most fun I've had in a long time.

it's best to get a leg up on PD populations..or hunting can be a wet noodle..just kiddin I never been PD hunting but always wanted to go

I had to check a map to find Baker---it's near the North Dakota border. I have shot p dogs in ND while pheasant hunting---not big numbers but fun way to spend a pm after a morning's pheasant hunt.
