PPU Brass Quality???

Hey Jim. How's your the weather out there? I like it. Seems to last, so far. I'm on my 6th loading on some. Mild loads tho.

91degrees today, Josh. About 20 hotter than i like it.
Have you measured up any of that brass and checked weight, of it?
Thanks,

Ouch! It was only 80 degrees here. Is that fire too close to you? On the PPU: I'm using it in that Swede you sold me. It's a fun gun, so I don't fuss over it. Anneal, resize and shoot.

Not near any current fires, Josh. The closest one burned about 13,000ac. It was about 4-5 miles out.

I just bought some to use for 308 subsonic loads. I was actually fairly impressed how uniform it was when preping it all. Lengths varied the most. Ive seen much worse brass. Havent shot any tho..

That sounds too close for comfort! There was a long thread on your question a few months ago. Might search it.

I have no issues with their .223 brass & have close 25 reloads on them.
Lost a few to some neck splits after 14 or so loads, but I also don't anneal.
Ive never weighed them, just size/tumble/load/shoot & repeat.
CBC/PPU/IMI/MAL/PMC have all been darn good brass also.

PPU's 7.62x39 and 6.5 Grendel brass is a little on the soft side in my experience, but it'll do. I'll echo Sniper338 - I've seen worse brass.

I am shooting a 7x57 mauser, FN made. I have 20 pieces that I have fired in the neighborhood of 10 times, no issues with any of it, and am shooting book max loads.

Can anyone speak to the quality of this brass??

I've tested it in a few calibers and found it to be surprisingly good compared to some other brands on the market. Wouldn't use it in competition, but would place it ahead of some popular brands people buy in the US.

Back a few years ago when you couldn't find any domestic brass a bought 200 PPU 243s to make 260s out of. The flash holes were not always centered. I have a Ron Hoen tool that centers the hole but if it is of center too much you get an egg shaped hole. I ran all 200 of them with this tool and they shot as well as the Winchester I got later. I just thought they would have been as good as anybodies brass if they had the flash holes centered.

Been running PPU 7X57 and 6.5X55 brass for my 25 Swede for a few months and so far am pleased with the outcome...
It's not 100% perfect neck wise, but a little turning solves that problem...
Even the weights were not bad....
