Based on field use over the last 50 years, the old axiom that you hear at 100 and 200 yard BR matches still seems to hold true: “you either shoot a 6PPC or get beat by one!”

There are many great cartridges. Meticulous load development with great bullets can produce great results with most of them. However if you need really tiny aggs, the 6PPC has proven its ability to deliver them. Exceptional shooters win with them.

There are numerous examples that bring this into question, head to head. UBR is the only short range format that I'm aware of that has a reasonably equal number of different chamberings. In it, there are also a pretty equal number of winning chamberings...head to head with PPC's. I'm not advocating anything. Just stating a fact, based on what I see in the only game with a fair number of different chamberings facing off, head to head, in the same conditions and at the same time. I really think THAT tells us all more than what wins in a game where virtually 100% are shooting a PPC. In that case, it's easy to guess what wins, just about every single time. Unless you regularly shoot against othee chamberings...in competition, head to head...I really have to think it's a stretch to matter of factly state that any cartridge is KING. Nothing more, nothing less.

Most every ppc shooter could be shooting a different caliber, but they aren't.

Who's "they", Joe? It's no longer me. Dead horse or not, there is a sanctioning body where there is a good mix of different chamberings competing head to head(UBR). The results are pretty even. What more needs to be said than that? Head to head, nothing dominates that game. If everyone shot a 45-70, that would dominate it, though.

UBR. Is that like the minor league for the IBS and the NBRSA? I never heard of it before……..

well, sorry. I looked it up and now I know that it is another organization similar to the IBS and NBRSA. What are the main differences???

The main difference is that UBR is caliber neutral..no advantage to the bigger hole of a 30 cal, for instance. So, you see a variety of chamberings. 22 and 6 PPC, 6BR, 30 Major and 30BRs, as well as a few 6 Grendels and others have all won with regularity.

I've shot under all three...IBS, UBR and NBRSA over several years. UBR is a great game. You should give it a try. I wouldn't call it minor league, but you might. Show up and shoot it, first.
