Correct Jim, these bolts are set up so that the extractor can grab both the larger diameter BR case as well as the smaller diameter PPC case.
What an informative contribution.Sometimes......
Then why did you make an incorrect statement? What an informative contribution.

Jim,
To try and be more precise to answer your question, whether or not the bolt can handle both a PPC case and a BR case will depend on the specific action, how old it is, and what type of extractor it uses.
For example, an action with a 308 bolt face that uses a Sako extractor will most likely handle both the BR and PPC cases.
However, if it uses a sliding plate style extractor, you may have to have you gunsmith install a different sized extractor (this is where date of manufacture can play a role).
Your best bet would be to let your smith know what action the rifle you are looking at is built on, the year that action was made, and then your smith can advise you on whether or not he thinks that particular action will be able to extract both size cases or what may need to be changed.
To that effect, Waynes comment of "sometimes" was appropriate and I apologize for my rash response once again.

I am shopping for my first rifle. I was looking for something used. While looking around I’ve seen different references to bolt faces. When someone advertises ppc/br bolt face does that mean it can handle both the 6ppc and 6br cases?
Thanks, Jim.
"They said that they would guarantee that it would pull the case but not that it would extract."
Please explain the difference between, "pull the case" and "extract".
