Powered Case Trimmer shopping

@F Class John Any experience with the RCBS machine? Link below
https://www.brownells.com/reloading...its/universal-case-prep-center-prod64667.aspx

This would solve the problem of limited "touches" and the motor would run to trim on case while prepping another case

It works fine, but it's still an extra touch and it still honestly doesn't do as good a job as the Giraud. I understand what you're trying to accomplish but NOTHING is the same as a Giraud. I don't say that lightly or about too many things but it's true in this case.

@PBking51
I have a rcbs prep center and I have a rcbs power case trimmer I do not have this new one you posted. I personally do not like the case trimmer, it works ok but I have never liked a pilot system and the case holders that rcbs use but it’s just a opinion I do however love there case prep center.

Well with the new all-in-one trimmer, it still uses pilots but the shell holder is universal and they did away with the shell plates. In fact they sell the v2.0 jaws to retrofit the old ones. I only had issues with stuck pilots when trimming a large amount of. Plus with the rcbs you can trim pistol cartridges and faux shoulder cases like 22 hornet. My main concern with the rcbs was how square it cuts, though with the lever feeding the case I imagine it's pretty square because the constant pressure.

Right now it's either the Lyman and another 150 for a Hornady or rcbs case mate prep station or the RCBS.

Yes the RCBS will be close in price to the giraud, but I get access to multiple calibers and all the case mouth/pocket tools

I have not used the Hornady prep station but it looks like a great unit. I never have been a rcbs fan for the most part but I worked for ATK now vista outdoors which is there parent company and I got huge discounts so I got the prep station and it’s worked good for me but if I had to do it again I would at least check out that Hornady

ps
I’m glad to hear they did away with that phony shell holder system they had.

Im looking at the extra bushing for 6.5 Grendel and curious about 32-20....would it be the same as 218 bee?

I like that machine alot. How are cases feed into the shell holder? Looks precise but also like it has to be unscrewed every case?

I have the RCBS power Trimm and case prep center. I also have Forster and RCBS hand trimmers.

I bought a Giraud a little over a month ago. It is much faster and more precise. Wish I had known to buy one from the start. I still have the RCBS power trim on the bench and keep it set up for one of my .257 hunting rifles. The case prep center is handy to use so I keep it on the bench too.

How many cases do you have that need to be trimmed? Do you trim a case more than than once? I had a Giraud trimmer any but didn’t use it.

I like the idea of processing 1000 rounds of 223, but I usually do a batch of 50 for development then once I have it down, I would most likely do 100-200 to have on stock. As of now I will be loading for 300wsm, 6.5x55, 7x57, 7mm-08, and 222

Forgot to mention 6.5 Grendel.... also wouldn't mind taking the m14 out and getting 500 rounds of 308 ready

Ever wonder why everything and anything is available in the classifieds EXCEPT Giraud trimmers?

Consider when shopping for a trimmer solution the ability to trim, chamfer, and bevel at the same time.
Doing all those steps separately really adds up.

You can use a Forster lathe with a 3 way cutter head till you break down and get a Giraud.
If you can set it and forget it, it will work great.
It's when you need to change it then reset it, things can be "trial & error".

Several sites sell the power adapter head that replaces the Forster trimmer handle.
EA brown, https://www.eabco.net/, has one of the lowest prices on the 3 way cutter head.

I think the Henderson is an upgrade from the Giraud and we have since sold off our Giraud. Its advantages are mainly ergonomic...better on the hands over long sessions. It is also a wee bit faster. When trimming 1,000 pieces of brass, that makes a big difference to us. BUT, it is even more expensive than the Giraud...luxury item. :)

I have the PMA and I like it. Use his case power drive adapter and while the case is mounted trim. chamfer, debur, brush, on to the next. Tip: for the ones that register on the shoulder, let the case spin past the point where you think that they have stopped cutting and your uniformity will be better.

You mean like the Lyman Boyd?... are you still using a Wilson for your ppc?

Just order the Lyman Xpress and also a 32 pilot for the Lyman hand trimmer for 32-20...that caliber wasn't listed for any bushing with the Xpress??

Should I assume 218 bee collet would work for it? There is more of a shoulder than a 300 blackout which is listed, but maybe the long neck moves it into the straight walled cartridge for trimmer purposes?
