Powders for 22-250

The best powder I ever shot in my fast twist was N150. It worked one hole wonders with 69gr MKs. Good enough to shoot a 249 at 100yd score.

Unfortunately it ran out locally and couldn't justify ordering an 8 pounder. After all I've tried I wish I would have. I settled on more readily available N550 and it's good but it's not as good. There will always be that thought in the back of my mind about N150

I've tried N160 behind 75 and 80gr berger VLDs and I couldn't get it to shoot

I just tested some H380 with 69 grain Sierras in my new 1 in 8 twist. It looks real promissing.

I ran H380 for years and then switched to Reloader 15 for a couple years, but I'm back to H380. It meters perfectly and the accuracy always amazes!

+1. H380 works every good for me with 50s. I don't shoot them wide open, but for max accuracy. Very pleased. Seems a little temperature sensitive I will add.

There was a good article in Shooting Times several years back about the ability of a 22-250 to shoot a huge variety of powder/bullets combinations. The author took a dozens or so powders and randomly matched them with a dozen different bullets and optimize the load with each pair. Amazing most loads shot well.

Luck with your 22-250, Tim

Tim,
Some cartridges are easier to tune then others, like the .222 Rem, 6br and the .308 for instance usually never seems hard to find a load for, I find the 22-250 to be one of those rounds, can be a little picky on bullets but not on powder, ( if only my 6*284 was that easy ) it's like a drug I just can't stop trying to make it shoot :)

montec, I use Ramshot Big Game in my 22-250 and it shoots as well as I believe it should for a factory Savage barrel. What make barrel and twist are you shooting?

I have loaded for dozens of 22-250's. Shot out many bbl,s. You will have to search long and hard to beat 36.5 grs of varget with 52smk! Can be difficult to meter at times but for me its worth the accuracy and how clean it burns.
H380 is very good also, meters great but just to dirty for me.
The 22-250 is just a great cartridge and fun to shoot!!

Win 760 is pretty temp sensitive but a good powder. Keeping that in mind a few years ago I switched to Benchmark and a 50 Gr. V-Max. an honest 3900 + fps and very accurate. By the way it's a lot easier to find and lots cheaper the VV powders.
