Powder scales just came in. Great deal

Let me modify that. I think that ten minutes or less should do fine, perhaps no more than five, which means that there should be no problem turning it on and off when alternating loading and shooting at the range, with the scale on battery power. Battery life will benefit from this little bit of info.

Today I did a little work with the scale and guessing that I may have messed up my zero tracking setting by some inopportune button pushing, reset that function, did a brief test (which made me smile) and discovered that if great care and a gentle touch is used, that the clear lid can be removed (by gingerly over rotating the lid past its normal open position) without damage, so that a wind enclosure of lower profile, that has room for a scale pan when closed, can be designed....my next project.

I have been working on how I will approach the subject a bit. I am kind of glad that I have waited because of the questions that have come up, and some of the things that I have learned.

I have mine here unused just waiting for the final review with the best way to get the most out of it from the start.......But I AM a patient appreciative man... :o

I've had mine for few weeks now and it's a good unit. It did throw me for a loop yesterday, tho, while I was calibrating it. I did the button pushes for calibrating and it displayed "load" and then instead of 100g it displayed 50g. I put a 50g test weight on it and it showed "50.000" so I guess it's okay. Any one else have this experience?

Dennis

Well, I found out what is going on here: if you press the button once, you get "100 g" and if you press it again, you get "50 g" so now I wonder if this is a design feature for establishing some sort of linearity calibration?

Andrew,

I think it's a good unit and you can't go too far wrong for $90 shipped. I'm using it exclusively now, and it has slowed down my process by a factor of 3 or 4, but I'm loading to +/-0.02 grains (28.98 to 29.02). I use a Lee scoop and an Omega II trickler to get my weight, then tap or lift the Lyman funnel/pan to get the "final" weight, which is usually within my target window. It takes about a minute per load for this, give or take 15 seconds.

I only shoot 100 yard VFS, so this is probably overkill, but hey, that's what BR is all about, no? HTH

I have used this scale for some months now and I am impressed. It has it's quirks but is definitely an improvement in my loading and confidence in my loads. The biggest issue I have with it is the slow response to trickling. Takes forever if you just let the pan sit while you trickle. If you pick the pan up slightly and set it back down you will get immediate and repeatable results. Holds its zero fair, re-zeroing is only occasionally necessary if the scale is warmed up. I seem to get less drift after the scale has been on for 30 minutes or so. My shooting buddy bought one after watching mine in action.

Does it register the kernel if you tap on the weighing platform? Vs lifting the pan?

On my GP250 I just tap the platform and it registers instantly. Instead of picking pan up

Revision to previous post: I went in and set the Zero Tracking Function to the smallest available value and did a repeated weighing test. The results varied by .02 gn. (+- .01) this makes this scale the best value that I have seen. I am officially impressed! Another thing that I like is its size, not too big, not too small.
Boyd,
can you let me know how you go about setting the zero tracking function to the smallest available value
thank you

Do you have the instructions that came with the scale? If you lost them, PM me your email address and I will forward a PDF to you. I believe that I simply followed the instructions.

Reviews sound good on this scale for the price.
I might give one a go.

Can anyone give me the length of the power cord?
How big is the unit?

It is battery powered (6 AAA) with an AC adapter. With the dust cover closed it is 5 1/8 wide, 7" deep, and 2 3/8" tall. The weighing platform is 3 1/2" dia. With the dust cover open (in case you are curious about clearance required) it is 6" tall. No load cell scale will perform with a magnetic force restoration scale BUT few of us actually need that level of performance, or want to pay for it. This scale is an excellent value. Probably the best that you can buy in terms of features and price. If you can afford to spend 6-800 dollars or more, and like to obsess about the weight of individual pieces of powder then you need to spend that money, but for the vast majority this is better than you would believe for the money and all that you really need and more. It beats the heck out of any "relolading" scale that only reads to .1 gr.

Thanks Boyd, but I also was wondering the length of the power cord.
I need it to reach where my bench sits as my power plug is at another bench.
It looks to be long enough but, maybe someone will chime in on its length.
Thanks

Mr. B,

Mine is about 42".

Thank You very much for taking the time to measure it for me.

I also use a filter. Mine is an Ultrablok428 by Tripplite. The scale resides on a granite surface plate and is powered constantly. Please note the high tech cover, complete with cord relief notch.

ETA To me, not using a filter is akin to having a fan blowing towards your beam scale pan.
