Powder recomendantion for 6.5x284

With a reputation of 6.5x284 as a barrel burner would any of those powders offer advantage as to longer barrel life?

good question on barrel life so many variables hard to pin it down on powder my gun liked 48grs of H4350 some of the guys I shoot with use H4831, H4831sc, H1000
Good luck

When I competed with mine I worked with 4350 and 4831ssc the 4831 had the edge on my rifle shooting Lapua brass and 139 scenars and 142 Burgers. That was a long time ago I wouldn’t mind trying RL 23 or 26 in it.

VV165 and Hybrid 100V both are very close on the heat chart and would be good for barrel life. I could never get enough H1000 in the case to get decent speed. Ive been using VV165 for a few years but would love to try hybrid 100V

What would be optimal powder for loading 6.5x284 with 139-142gr bullets?

Optimal is one of those difficult words to manage in a written reply to questions with so little information. Usually all you get is a list of powders favored by some shooters.

It would be most beneficial if you would let us know what you intend to use this rifle for?

The OAL of your choice of cartridge and bullets?

The barrel life of a hunting rifle can be significantly longer than that of a highly motivated F-Class shooter.

I happen to like the 6.5x284 Norma cartridge and use it for several types of shooting. This can range from a relatively lightweight hunting rifle to a physically challenging heavyweight bench rifle. But I have found that a barrel seems to enjoy a slightly longer life when fired with cooler burning powders. I know, beggers can't be choosers but bear in mind that so many of our opinions were substantiated before the loss of powder selection and stupid high prices.

Hybrid 100V is superb as a cooler burning powder but you lose about 100 fps when compared to hotter powders. No big deal but offering the information.

Norma MRP is another terrific powder for this cartridge but burns hotter and shows a significant gain in velocity when compared to cooler powders.

No matter your choice(s), develop the best load for the pursuit of your liking and enjoy the process!:)
