Powder preference for 6BR (when using smaller bullets) ?

Poor Shot 65

Silver $$ Contributor
I just re-barreled a 6BR to use to use a Krieger LV 8 twist chambered with a .60 free bore and plan on shooting 68GR and 80GR Berger FB bullets. I have 8 lbs of Varget, but I am willing to pick up some N135.

-) Is it worth picking up 8lbs of N135 ?

-) Since the barrel is new -- how many rounds through the barrel should I wait to start actual load development ?

Thanks

Adam

For 80 gr V135, 133 for 68 or lighter would be my choice. I once had a 6 BR on a 10 twist that was a laser out to 500 yds with 135 and Berger 80 or 88 grain. Only rifle I ever owned that preferred Bergers, but it loved them.

i have a 12 twist Brux 6BR which is awesome with 80 Bergers and N135. shoots 68 Bart's Ultras with a stiff load of N135 as well.

VV N135 + 65/75 V-maxes gives very good accuracy. for me anyway. 1/14 Krieger HV 26" bbl. 31.5 - 32.0g
I've never tried any other powder?! 1/4 MOA-ish + less.

I been shooting an 8 twist 6br with 70gr Sierra blitz kings with N135 with great results, speed and accuracy with this combo is not a problem! Mine likes varget with the 88gr Bergers.

My accuracy with N-135 was at the top of listed load, 32.0 +

Varget, start at 31.0 and work up,
( As always watch for pressure )

seems unanimous - i will go ahead and pickup an 8lb jug of N135 and give that a try with the berger 80GR bullets.

Check the on line VVN manual , they start the 6 BR data with 70 gn SMK's
As to break-in, I always refer to what the barrel maker recommends

Not sure what difference the 8 twist would make but in my 14T with 55-65/68 grain bullets Accurate 2200 seems to do the trick.

Lt32 is so good.

I have no idea why everyone loves 8208 and never mentions Benchmark as they are nearly identical but Benchmark is even less temperature sensitive.

Or AR Comp. That is another one right there in that same speed. But no one likes that powder for some reason, and R16 and R23 are amazing. Same formulation.

I was simply trying to offer help in an area that I have personal experience. I use LT32 in a PPC and love it, haven't had any experience with benchmark. Just sticking to what I knew, not what I've heard. Certainly not knocking other powders, there are a lot of good powders I've never had occasion to try....

Certainly was not directed at you. I love lt32 and found it to be very temperature insensitive going from 70 degrees to 105 in one day shot the same.

If aa2015 is slower than lt32, which I don't think it is, then it would be the other choice for the 80 if lt32 is supposedly too fast, which I don't think it is.
