powder funnel

They are pretty good, but I like my RW Hart 17 caliber one a bit better, but do not know if they are still made. The XTreme Hardcore Gear funnels are a bit heavy and do not fit my case necks as well.

I bought the Area 419 kit; very impressed. (Mostly loading for 6BR with Varget.)

Then I saw the new Lyman kit (similar to the 419, but with O-ringed press fit caliber-specific adapters); and needing something for a planned range-reloading box, bought that as well. While not as nice or sexy-looking as the Area 419 kit; it does the job for about half the price.

Both of those are aluminum funnels with interchangeable caliber-specific adapters. The 419 funnel is machined from billet, I think the Lyman is cast, then machined as necessary. The adapters for both are machined, I think; both models are anodized aluminum; 419's screw onto the funnel; Lyman's are press-fit with O-ring retention. Area 419's comes with a nice machined aluminum plate that holds all the pieces, Lyman's comes in a plastic box with foam cut the pieces.

Note that I do not use a drop tube, so have no comment on suitability for that. I've had a few cases (both funnels) where bridging powder jams it up, but nowhere near as often as with a universal sized plastic funnel, and about half as often as with a Satern .22-and-up funnel. A light tap gets everything flowing again (that's become my default behavior before moving the funnel to the next case.)

I had trouble with my Saturn funnel in the sense of spillage with 223 cases with "stick" powder, H4895. I'm probably the exception on this since others give them high marks. Perhaps I was doing something wrong; what I don't know but I'd get a few kennels of powder spilling out of the neck area.

Anyway I tried a plastic MTM see through funnel and I don't have any more spillage plus I can readily see if all the powder has been discharged into the case without having to lean forward.

I have been using a Fitz powder funnel for 60 years. I dropped it, it cracked, (still useable). But I have purchased a RCBS ,MTM and other. They all leak. What funnel is the best and no leaking? nilebartram
OK....... "they all leak"

Leak?

I've got some funnels. Maybe even a bunch. And some are orange and some are green and some are yellow and some are silver and some are black and some I can't remember...... but NONE OF THEM leak!

??

They're just funnels!

Maybe I need to get out more, hmmmmmm
