powder funnel

On the funnel leakage thing...If the angle in the bottom of the funnel is smaller, and the case has a short neck and large shoulder angle , the funnel can hit the shoulder of the case before it hits the mouth. Perhaps some of you who have experienced leakage can see if this is happening to you with your problem funnel/case combination and let us know.

Just received in a 22 Cal funnel from Satern and used it last night. Worked grrrrreat but it is just a little looser than I would have expected. I didn't see any errant kernels of H-4895 anywhere.

I'm going to have to do some polishing on it though, where the aluminum meets the brass, very sharp edge there that would catch a kernel every now and then. Just a slight bump with powder cup would dis-lodge it. Not quite as smooth as my 6MM or 30 Cal Satern funnels but good.

I just got the Forester with drop tube and am not pleased. Don't seem to able to get rid of the static and had some RL16 bridge in the drop tube....... what am I doing wrong?

Bill

I like my old red Lee funnel, never spilt a kernel and no static at all.. unlike some of my other plastic funnels..
I have one of these Lee red funnels and the 419 set.

I reach for the Lee first. They both work fine. The Lee is much cheaper and just as good if not better.

Hi Bill,

I got rid of the static using a shot of static guard spray then a light wipe down. Problem solved. Or, you could try the old dryer sheet trick. A 3rd solution...When I had my old Lyman electronic powder measure, they indicated in the instructions that Windex would work for static. They were correct. It surprised my, but it did solve the situation. That powder measure had a lot of static when I removed it from the box. Not so much after the Windex treatment.

As far as the powder bridging the tube, I haven't had that problem. Maybe sprinkle the powder a little slower instead of dumping out of the pan. When new, the tube itself can benefit greatly from some brake cleaner or alcohol cleaning. There was a good bit of lubrication in that tube when I got mine. Hope this helps.

I have the 419 kit, from .172-.308. The screw on tapers do not 'leak' even on super short necks like on my .17Predator.

As others have stated, the 419 funnel kit has relegated my Satern & plastic funnels to the junk parts drawer...

And the 419 drop tubes work great, you can use as many as you need, I believe they are 3" each.
