Powder dippers?

I am gearing up my reloading setup. I am going to be getting an omega auto powder trickler and was wondering if anyone here uses dippers with these instead of a powder thrower. I was thinking a dipper or even a good measuring spoon would work just as well for the bulk charger and trickle the rest and it would be one less thing on the bench. If I am weighing every charge would there be any problems doing this?

Thanks

A propperly set thrower will be much faster than a dipper or measuring spoon. They will work, but they will be very inconvenient.

faster is not always more consistant....

Lee makes good cheap plastic dippers that that come with a chart to tell you how much to expect each to hold with many different types of powders. I use mine alot by selecting one that holds under the desired charge, Dipping directly into the pan on the scale then trickle in the remainder......May not be as fast as a measure but I still use it a lot when weighing all my charges.

Hi TrxR,hi all

Plus 1 on Dan06,they're fairly easy to throw a volume that will come near your requested charge, the rest being adjusted through the trickler,on your scale(Gem Pro 250 being a good choice)to get the precise grains you need. They're cheap and quite precise...They have a bad reputation for being cheap I reckon, but they are great and practical to use,and not that slow.I use them this way and they work neat.Anyway whatever you feel at ease with that does the requested job is great,no matter the opinion....

That's exactly what I did when I started reloading, and think I still have those little yellow scoops somewhere.

Pour your powder into a wider container that is easy to dip from, and with some practice, you can get surprisingly accurate AND fast. No, not as fast as throwing everything, but if you are a relatively low volume loader, or a guy with time to spare, they're really not that bad of a way to go.

Scoop, dump, trickle, load, repeat. 8)

The dippers work o.k. but for $5. more you can get a great little Lee thrower and it will really speed things up for you and add consistency over the scoops. With some powders like Varget it will be just as accurate as measures costing 10X the price and it will just speed up your reloading as you will have to trickle less for each round usually just tapping in a few hits on the Omega (which is such a great tool).

Just set the thrower to dispense .5 grain light then tap in the last little bit and after some practice it goes fast and really accurate.

For large charges going into my 30-06, I use a small Lee Dipper to speed things along. As soon as my Chargemaster starts it's cycle I use a small dipper to add the bulk of the charge in one dose. It then switches to the slow/trickle speed and finishes a 50-55 gr charge in far less time.

Set the pan, reach for dipper of powder, pour, wait, pour in case, repeat. Of course a $2 measuring spoon set will do the same for this method.
