Omega Powder trickler?

I am looking at buying a Omega auto Trickler in the new year and was wondering if it would be a bad idea to use it to put my full load onto the scale with it? I will be loading for .223. Or should I pick up a good used powder thrower like a RCBS to go along with it?

Thanks

Trxr,
i actually tried to trickle a load or two of 5.56 with my omega....let me just say..it will take AWHILE even on the high setting. if you give it a head start with a scoop like the Lee dippers or a plastic spoon you should not go too crazy before you load 100 rounds up. i would recommend getting both. The Omega is an AWESOME trickler. The statement about flowing a single kernal of powder is TRUE. FWIW i have an old Pacific (Hornady) powder measure and i am not gonna give it up! Good luck to you and Merry Christmas,
Doc

I use a lee scoop then trickle with the Omega. One thing to be careful with some cheaper electronic scales is trickling from the start - the first few tenth's of a grain or so off zero the scale may interpret as drift, so you can develop errors. If you trickle real slow, you can actually accumulate several grains while the scale still reads zero. So, I dump a scoop in first, then trickle. (Chargemaster 1500 scale)

The Omega auto trickler is an excellent tool - just dump your charge and press the button and the trickler will do the rest. Check out the video on the Dandy site.
You don't need a good thrower - just any thrower, a Lee will do the job just as well, the aim is to throw a charge a couple of grains below the desired weight and let the trickler do the rest. While you're busy seating the previous bullet the trickler is doing it's stuff and a perfect charge is ready waiting for you.

like a few other guys said , I just use a Lee scoop for the bulk of my powder then trickle the rest . I'm guessing a set of these scoops is under $20 . Jim

Since I already own a Chargemaster, what I do is to set the throw weight to .2 or .3 less than desired, run it, put the thrown charge on to the GemPro and let the Omega finish things out to the last granule of powder I need to make the desired weight.

The Omega is a nice addition to the process and works like a charm.

Are there any tricks to setting the Omega up. Grains tend to clump up on mine and then drop multiple grains. I have fiddled with the fore-aft level and the placement of the vibration damper and have yet to find what I would consider the sweet spot for set up. Still a great tool, just wondering if it can be optimized.

Try turning the tube 180 degrees on the base. I found that it changes the vibratory characteristics tremendously. Once you have figured out which position maximizes the drop output you can turn it to any spot in between to get what you need.

To prevent clumping and reduce your spreads to within a couple grains of powder try the straw mod:

^^ That's my exact process as well.
