Powder choice for 6.5x47 130-140gr bullet

For brass, I take the current 7-08 brass on the shelf and simply run it through the 260 F/L sizing die. Currently working with Hornady. Have also used Winchester with success. You could do the same with .243, but some say there's a risk of creating donuts.

That would be an interesting way to get 6.5 x 47 brass.

You will find what works for your rifle with the components you have on hand easily enough. The 6.5×47L is a sweetheart to load for as everyone has stated.

In my case, I had one built on a Model 7 for my daughter. 26" Bartlien, Manners T3, and a Timney CE (wish I had waited on a Jewell). Anyway, 38.1 Varget, 450 primer, and a 130 Berger VLDH jammed .010". This is one time I have never felt the need to try something else. I will usually tweek any load for the heck of it and/or try different bullet powder combinations, but not this time. I easily got the velocity I wanted (2825 fps single digit SD), accuracy has been outstanding over a few years regardless of temperature, and relatively low pressure. What's not to love......

I don't know whether it's been mentioned but the original case design by Lapua included the SMALL rifle primer for a reason - the case with the SMALL rifle primer pocket is stronger than the exact case with a LARGE rifle primer pocket. Their design pressures associated with standard, recommended loads approach those of accepted SAAMI magnum loads in the 66000 levels. I would not expect the margin of safety to be there using a re-formed case with a LARGE rifle primer pocket or anything other than the original case with the SR primer pockets.

Ran a ladder on the new 140ELD today in a stiff wind at 200yd. Very nice node using PP2000MR with a 1/2inch "group" across 0.9gr powder range, averaging about 2900fps. Looking for better wind bucking for long range vs 123 Scenars, which shoot great too. I've had good results with PP in terms of higher velocities at decent pressures. I understand others experienced temperature sensitivity in the 308, but I haven't seen this in the 6.5.
