Possible Change to Optics Sale AREA -- Members ONLY?

That makes a lot of sense to me.

Whoever has the lower trader history sends money/item first.

Might need a minimum of positive feedbacks before you can take precedence though, like 10 or so.

If both seller and buyer have less than 10 then it goes by post count.

If both have low post count AND low/no trader history then they are probably trying to scam each other, which would be hilarious

I’ve been on this sight for about 3 years now and I think the boss has done a great job maintaining this sight. I’ve purchased many guns and other parts from members as well as selling off some guns lately. I don’t post comments too much but do enjoy reading and learning here. I’ve had good experiences with everyone I purchased from or sold to. I make it a point to talk to the person I’m making the transaction with. If not I do a search of there post. I think we all need to use some common sense when making a transaction with someone. If your not sure of the person strike up a conversation about where they shoot or compete, who they know that you may know Etc. If you not sure use a middle man that both agree on if that works for you.
I feel if I get burned on a deal well that’s on me and I didn’t do what I needed to do to protect myself.
The forum Boss can only do so much to keep the scammers out. So we need to also do our part when buying or selling on this sight or any other sight.

I'm thinking of this: If you are an adult, you are responsible for your decisions as well as your money.
Couldn't have said it better. I've been watching this thread for 7 pages. Just about everything imaginable has been said from just about every direction, and at the end of the day, I can't figure out why the Boss has to be responsible for everybody's actions on the classifieds. He is not the one buying or selling that is making the decision to send money or the goods-so why do most on here (including him), think he HAS to do something about it? I think it's high time we get away from the left attitude that SOMEBODY has to be responsible for your own actions and decisions. There is enough pressure on the gun crowd right now that our efforts could probably be better used elsewhere. Lets move on.

I'd like to say that asking for a picture of the item with a newspaper to date it will get a big laugh from me. I'll gladly get you a custom pic of the item with a handwritten note or similar such, but I haven't bought or seen a newspaper in a decade or more (good riddance, they're absolute rubbish) and I won't be buying one to take a picture with.

More constructively, I always call the seller or buyer on the phone. My gut feeling has never let me down in an actual conversation with a person on the phone or face-to-face and I agree with the Boss that it is the best way to go before making any transaction. It's far more reliable than post counts or membership status.

Checks business or personal can bounce months later since someone COULD claim they were stolen and file a dispute to claw the money back. Also for money orders one could ask for a pic of the filled out MO with the serial number clearly visible so that you could check to see it it is stolen. Blank money orders are acceptable too.

Neither common sense nor common courtesy are very common any more!

The way I see it, I am responsible for my actions and you are responsible for yours. If you see what you think is a good deal on an internet forum and it piques your interest then it is your fault if you are taken in by a scammer if you do not do your due diligence. Many buyers are taken because it seems to be such a "great deal", they know the price is below market and greed sets in, they have to get it before someone else does! We are all adults and have seen warnings here and on other forums about the possibility of scammers and suggestions on how to verify the offer. If we do not protect ourselves then we have no one else to blame. I have never purchased on here but I have on other forums and have never had an issue. However, before I sent any payment I had enough information to know, or at least believe with a high level of faith, that the seller was legit. I once had a package delayed due to snow storms in the northwest but the seller had provided a tracking number via text before he left the post office so I knew the package was on the way and could easily track it.

I know that those who have been taken won't like this characterization but it pretty much takes greed on both sides for the scammers to succeed!

Does this reply make any logical sense to anyone?

This is my take on what was meant by this.

So, if I send my really nice scope to a cheater or a thief before I receive any funds and he decides to cheat me out of the payment, the cheater will be outfitted with a nice scope and i will be cheated out of the money by a thief.....

But the likelihood of that happening with a guy who has 10+ positive transactions is next to nil
