Portable reloading box

I picked up a spare press over the weekend and for some reason I felt like I needed another project. So with a stair tread, a few spare oak boards, a dewalt battery circular saw, impact driver, and drill this is what I created for around the house. I figured I’d share because google didn’t really have any ideas other than the stands for the presses. I kept the shelf detachable in case for any reason I wanted to load at a range I could use the main box as a wind block.

Thanks for the compliments all. I don’t really know for sure on the oak but I’m going to guess your right on the red oak by the grain and color. I’m probably going to add some handles on the sides and stain and poly it. It was kind of fun making it with really basic framing tools. It makes you appreciate taking your time and really thinking how you need something to work and come out in the end.
If any of you have some homemade projects feel free to hijack the thread I enjoy seeing creativity at work.

I have started keeping stair treads on hand because they come in handy for a number of projects besides stairs!

Range boxes, portable reloading set ups, compact reloading tables for small spaces, any and all little projects are always interesting, I think.:)

You think you used enough wood there, Butch?

All kidding aside, it never crossed my mind to use those Home Depot oak laminated stair treads for a project requiring strength and stiffness. Thanks, you just broadened my mind.

Q: Is the wood core on those treads fairly incompressible when you bolt your press onto it? Or does it squish a bit like it's made of a softwood. Is the fir wood one any better?

I haven’t mounted the press yet. It’s been on the back burner with kid activities taking more priority. The tread is pretty solid and cut a lot harder than pine 2x4s

Update with photos.

I like to keep a little "stair tread" around the garage also. Primarily because that's about the only way one can purchase finished actually 1" thick hardwood lumber, without going to special order. It is side-to-side laminated hardwood boards vicinity of 2.5-inches wide, more or less, generally in red oak, occasionally hickory. My son is a trim carpenter specializing in upscale, fancy stairwell construction. But once in a while, he works at a hardwood mill and constructs stair tread and hardwood flooring for his business.

Mostly, I use tread to fashion "boards" to attach under my rear bags to provide the height I need and to ensure a flat bottomed bag...of course, I may even use a bottom bag under the board also. But, there's no doubt that a 1" attached board will take out a rounded bag bottom. It makes beautiful 100-case loading blocks; but, yes it's expensive!
