polymer bullet tip material

anyone know what type of plastic is used in the AMAX bullet?

i HBN coat my HPBT bullets and usually rinse with acetone to get them clean of lube, etc. i'm fairly certain that acetone won't play well with those plastic tips.

those that HBN coat their bullets, what do you use to clean the jacket?

Dip a tip in the acetone and see what it does. You can always reuse it as a fowler or for checking throats etc.

I'm not sure what the Amax uses, but when Nosler came out with the Ballistic Tip, they made the tips out of Polycarbonate and bought it from us. Yes, acetone will soften the polycarbonate.
You can take 2 pieces of flat PC and squirt acetone on one side and solvent weld them together. Carbon tet or parachloroethylene will make it brittle and it will break.

What would be wrong with washing them in dawn dishwashing soap and then a good rinsing and put them on a towel to air dry. No nasty chemicals and safe in the home.

i called Hornady tech support and they had no idea what plastic it was.

i had a few bullets left of one particular lot left, so i submerged them in acetone for about 20 minutes just to see the extreme case of what would happen. i dumped off the acetone and inspected... no visible changes and i couldn't tell any difference in hardness of the plastic. so, it appears all is good.
