POLL: Anyone Want to Try Shooting On ICFRA Targets?

Poll for both Sling & F-Class shooters:

The Bridgeville Rifle & Pistol Club (BRPC) is in the very early stages of considering the possibility of holding a Long Range Match using ICFRA targets - just talk right now. Obviously no one wants to run a match if shooters are not interested - hence the reason for this post.

As you know, the ICFRA "V-Bull" 5-point target is much different than the targets we use here in the US, and NRA does not sanction matches using the ICFRA Target.

Is there any interest among Sling Shooters and/or F-Class Shooters in shooting on the ICFRA International Match Target?

Or, put another way - If you had the chance to shoot on the ICFRA targets in a non-NRA sanctioned Long Range match, would you want to shoot that match?

We would like to hear from you - Yes or No - your interest level will play a significant role in whether BRPC pursues this very preliminary idea any further.

Why? The target really isn’t much different at all, aside from the value assigned to the rings. Just curious as to what the potential draw would be.

Purely an assumption, but I'd guess to get people familiar with them for the V2 championship since that's what they will shoot on. And I think it's a good idea. Plus, it only makes you better if you occasionally step outside the norm of your comfort zone.

That is "one" of the reasons we at CIHPRS pair fired our IN/KY State LR Championship. The bigger reason was that we could get twice the number of people on the line to shoot in like conditions but it did also give people practice at pair firing for those that had never done it before.

Some people hated it because it forced you to read each condition with no waiting......Some looked at it as learning experience that made them better and others simply complained. That's the nature of this game. Can't please everyone.
 
Not really...the "6-ring" on the NRA target is oft-times a deflection hold-point for me...have to use my imagination on the ICFRA target!! Yet, the use of an ICFRA target would not get me to stay away.

Yeah, I get all of that. I don’t know if you’re addressing me specifically, or shooters in general, but my comfort zone is pretty wide. I love pair firing, and I’ve shot a fair amount on the ICFRA targets in ICFRA-sanctioned matches. My point is that the target dimensions are basically the same as our NRA targets, or close enough that a shooter won’t notice the difference when shooting on them. the only real difference is the scores. So instead of a clean being worth 150 points, it’s worth 75. So in my thinking, all that’s really changed is the math the scorekeeper has to do at the end of the match.

So I guess without more info I’m neither for it nor against it, I was just asking about the reasoning behind it.

Thru the Palma sights, I always liked the ICFRA target better...the white'er background made the black bull more prominent.

First sentence was addressed at your comment. I am basing that upon the same club promoting V2 eligible shoots. The rest was a general statement and commentary.
 
Ok, understood. What is the V2 championship? I tried google, but didn’t really see anything that looked shooting related.

Reasoning? Well, I'd say FlintCreek 6412 got most of it - the rest is just thinking of things to do that might be different, might be fun, and might be a learning experience for those who haven't had the chance elsewhere. while at the same time giving some practice on that target that some might want.

Maybe it's just me, but that V-Bull target looks different to me through the scope when I'm trying to make small adjustments in hold-off... miss my American X in the middle of the ring.... so for me, it would be a practice opportunity - but then, that's just me....

One simple conceptual advantage for ICFRA targets from a competitive standpoint is they offer a more balanced scoring system since a miss would only cost you 5 point and not 10 plus you don't have the point disparity of the NRA target. At high level matches you'd have a much tighter field when you're only working with 1-5 points and not some of the crazy scenarios we see where a single bad call could take you out of the running like the NRA targets do.

Another advantage, which admittedly doesn't affect everyone, is that it would allow the US National Team to practice on the targets they shoot Worlds on through the year (or 4 years as it is).
 
I’ve only been shooting F class for 11 years. I don’t know how things were done when it started. Matt says, “Like it is supposed to be.” Did the U.S. Change things to follow the way that the sling matches were already being held, or did European countries change things, to what they wanted? I’m curious as to this! I’ve alway felt, why do we need to change things To follow others? I’m not complaining, just would like to know which really came first.
