Polishing an action

If you wanted to repolish a stainless steel action, what kind of polisher would you opt for? Beginning grit then finishing grit?
Iv found a type of stainless steel polisher that fits on a drill that has these green tips. I see lots of pipe welders use these things. Ill try and find a photo

If you want to keep everything flat and smooth without rounding the edges use flat stones going to finer grits as you go along then polish with some compound. Power tools will round the edges and likely cause wavyness in the flat areas. The picture was polished with stones.
