Polishing an action?

I have purchased a remington 700 short action for a new build. I am kind of new to this kind of stuff. The barreled action has been duracoated and looks terrible.

I was wondering if I can remove this stuff and then polish the action.
If so can anybody tell me how this is done. I've done some research on how to remove the duracoat and think I can handle that part bit need to know if polishing is an option. And if so can I do this myself?

If you have never polished a action with buffing wheels before you will be better off polishing your action by hand with a shoe polishing action and strips of wet - dry paper in different grades along with a light oil....
Just go slow and it will be fine job when finished................

MY twin Preacher told you correctly"
Yes you should put something on it. It will rust if you leave it bright.
Options Ceracote by brownell s. Blue by a pro set up for blueing.
Plating . { chrome"

Call Brownells and ask them to ship you a can of Clear shake and bake..
I used the matte clear on a XP action years ago to match the SS barrel, and it's still going strong.. Most everyone thinks it's a Stainless Steel XP.....

Jacob, I got a small bottle of Brownell's rust blue solution and blued 2 old Mauser receivers and some misc parts. It was a lot of trouble and slow, but came out a nice satin black color that appears to be durable. It's impervious to the 0000 steel wool used to card between rusting/boiling cycles.

I'll have to try Preachers idea. Sometimes I have wanted a stainless look, but didn't want chrome or nickel.

Good luck, Tom
