Stainless Steel action finishes

What are the options for finishes on Stainless steel action with out changing any of the action clearance's?
I know of mat bead blast outside of action. Any finishes that would make the action Black ?
Some years back I thought I heard of a Hot blue for stainless steel. I think brownells sold a salt that was made to blue stainless steel.

who does this kind of work?

Salt bath nitride ( Melonite ) will make it a nice smooth black color. The shinier you make it before, the shinier it will come out when it is done, and it will make it function nice and smooth also. It will be practically wear resistant.

Is the bolt on a stainless Rem 700 all stainless or is the bolt shroud and recoil lugs of a different material ? I was just wondering Tarey if when I send my stripped bolt along with my action do I have to remove the shroud? I talked to the people that you recommended and the said to have it all in one batch it has to be of the same material. Have you sent the bolt along with the action in the same batch? Thank You for the help and recommendation, Ron

It ain't all stainless.

I really still have not got a answer.
If I have a brand new shiny stainless steel custom action and would like to have a matt black finish.
How would I go about?
how much would it cost?

I had some stuff (stainless) done at general plating in Rochester. When it came back it was blackened just like the original gas cylinders used to look on m1 garands including the muzzle brake I made out of 316ss for a ar-15. So yes it is a common process that most plating(industrial) shops can do with ease.
