Considering a Stiller predator. Would like a polished action since this is a target rifle. How hard would it be to polish one. Can it be be done with without having to buy special grinding wheels?
First off you don't want a grinding wheel, not even a special grinding wheel. You need buffing wheels and polishing/buffing compound! I buff stainless steel all the time in my business and I buy my compound from "Matchless Metal Polish Company in Chicago. I use their olive green compound for stainless steel. It cuts lightly and give a good finish very quickly. They also sell the cotton buffing wheels for your buffer. They custom make the buffing wheels to your specs. Once you get set up you can buff a stainless steel receiver in less than 15 minutes with little effort at all. The biggest thing is to hold onto the item you are buffing tightly or it can get ripped out of your hands and go airborn. Ask me how I know.jsthntn247 said:Considering a Stiller predator. That's not gonna be close to cutting it. Its not going to come anywhere near polishing a bead blasted SS action. A whole lot of sanding and buffing is about the only way.jsthntn247 said:Think I'm going to try some Mothers Mag and Billet polish and see how it turns out.
