Asking about long term NY residents...
I've been a NY resident since 1998, coming from NJ.
It's my long considered opinion that this state has become irrevocably corrupted by Cultural Marxism (look that up...), and that our only viable course is to abandon this state to its Progressive sycophants. I'm currently on a trip spending several months in TX, looking seriously for my next home.
Sheldon Silver was just convicted late this past week on Federal corruption charges with a 130yr sentence. He ran the NY State Legislature for our esteemed governor, Andrew Cuomo, and was the key facilitator allowing the NY SAFE Act to pass in a closed Midnight Session, without time to even read the act. The only folks who don't seem to think that's illegal are probably (also) on Bloomberg's payroll. It was buried in the back of the news during the CO and CA mass shooting 'chicken little' hysteria.
A lot here see period this as a detour away from the rule of Constitutional Law, with the expectation that things will somehow miraculously return to normal if we do this or that.
I think that's just another symptom of denial. Our educational, legal, legislative systems and media are now the tools of a socialist oppression that is entrenched clear down to the bedrock of our society. Due to Political Correctness, and deliberately oppressive laws, such corrective acts are now harshly prohibited.
There is no possibility of reversing this because our laws have been mutated to ensure that no such miracles are permitted to occur.
Just ask your kids, products of this system's indoctrination, about our subjects, and you will hear deeply imbedded progressive cant.
This fight is lost, all that resistance can achieve is to isolate and identify our views for political correction, like the Pol Pot reeducation camps. Understand this and behave accordingly. But this fight is neither the only one nor the last one. In a very real sense, the one we can win, the next one, can only be postponed by doggedly prolonging the current one.
IMHO, the most effective path is to hasten the time when the current regime's goals are fully met and out there in the world for all to see and marvel at their colossal stupidity. Only then will they have revealed their cowardly, feckless principles, and only then can the motivation exist to disenfranchise them totally and permanently.
The longer resistance continues, the longer what can follow is postponed, and the better the cultural Marxists get to hone their tools and weapons in support of totalitarian dominance. When resistance becomes invisible, above suspicion, only then can it reach the vulnerable bowels of the oppression, and bring credible pressure to bear.
I'm guessing Sun Tsu had some words that would express this in a far more eloquent manner. But I think he would agree with all this, chapter and verse.
