Please help with this ladder test- new 2nd ladder

To shoot long range with the 155's you need to be at 2950 fps or that neighborhood.
With LC brass I would suggest you are overloading your brass. What did you use for your data source to work so high?

I would skip trying to chase the lands. The bullets you have used are fine at magazine length.

Probably looking for a bullet puller now. I think the Hornady collet style may work well for me vs. the hammer style. Going to try to unload all the ammo keep ID neck .308-.309 compared to .008 variance. Separate brass buy weight, do you toss that much brass of just keep similar weights in separate boxes.

Re: the 20" SPS It is a budget build. Saw at a gun show looked new, zero sign of bolt usage. Included scope base, rings and mildot scope. The glass was very clear, however it is still a no name. Worked well enough I bought a higher mag from the same company. I wanted to shoot long range and people do it with the .308 win. I never owned a 700 Remington, Come on, I have to have it. Everyone needs a Rem 700. I thought the action alone would be close to that value, then put on a GOOD barrel... After more research and may new goal of shoot at 1000, I would prefer a Savage in the 6.5-284 target model, does anyone want to trade??? No.. ok I will keep tuning this one. I Devcon bedded the action in the stock, still has the junky Hogue stock but I have plenty of clearance so the stock does not contact the barrel even under extreme hard hold/pressure on bipod legs.

Yes that is alot of powder in the LC case 46.1 fits well, but that 47.9 was TIGHT.

I am still going to try some longer seating depths, just to ensure I did what I could. One load, either the SMK or the Hornady will stay box length, the other I dont care too much.

Yes I have been to the Hide, but mostly because a search of "rem 700 SPS varget 168 SMK" leads on there. Then I found this site. I am more of a paper puncher than a Professional. But one can learn a lot from people that rely on their weapon that much.

Know what is funny the Winchester Model 70 Classic sporter in .270 Winchester that has just been gathering dust for the pass 10+ years... I worked up a ladder test and a load on that boy and got a one hole 100yard group. Even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then. I was going to leave that gun down south so I would not have to fly with a gun ($$) The back up may out shoot the "tactical"?

Do not discredit the merits of full length sizing. It is the most consistent. If your factory chamber has any runout and you neck size only, then are you making sure the case gets loaded back into the chamber in the same orientation? This could cause concentricity issues.
Do you check run out on your loaded rounds? Neck tension consistecy is paramount!

Thanks again,
I was planning on testing 10 rounds with collet and 10 rounds with FL sizer. I want to get the best charge an length first.
I will measure a fired case for run out, thanks.

I just found a flaw in my plan, NECK TENSION. How important is it?

Recently I noticed that I had a batch of brass that was sized with different neck bushings and it got mixed together by accident, I shot it and my targets were a mess. This is 20 Tac with 4198. I went back, FL sized everything and sized with two different bushings 3 thou apart. I then mixed them together, 10 rounds each, and shot them at the same target, same aim point and wouldnt you know it, two very neat 10 shot groups that didnt touch each other. POI was higher vertical with the higher neck tension. I'll never take neck tension for granted again after that experiment. These were pretty mild loads too, nowehere near the top where a pressure spike might be expected.
