Please help me build my first gun

I am a total newby and have already learned a tremendous amount from everyone on this board. I am looking for something I can shoot eggs and woodchuck shoots at least up to 600 and still be a repeater so I can hunt. So I want super accuracy, but less recoil.

6.5 x 284 .294 neck
Rem. 700 action trued
1:8" sendero contour 25" barrel bead blasted and fluted to reduce weight.
Jewell trigger
custom muzzle brake to reduce recoil
Set in bedded stock

Where am I going wrong here? Or what could I do better??

If recoil is an issue I might want more barrel weight & put a recoil reducer in the butt stock..muzzle brakes are cool but some clubs & shoots don't allow them..If your goal is 600 yds with good accuracy & mild recoil a 6mmbr stretched out a bit..the dasher ??? A few guys here shoot the longer version...I built a 6.5 X 284 with a 28 inch barrel ..Very heavy Savage varmint taper...The recoil is not much at all in that rig...But I did fit a recoil reducer into that butt stock...It changes the felt effect of recoil ...not really reducing it...I dont think you can wrong with the 6.5 x 284 but I really enjoy my 6mmbr ..It shoots very well & is no problem in the recoil dept...mike in ct

I'm working on a 243 right now..it has a [removable]muzzle brake..& a homemade recoil reducer...I'm putting some finishing touches on the fiberglass thumbhole stock [like a removable cheek piece].& after it is done I'll post up some pics..I test fired the bargain A & B barrel for that savage short action... The first trip to the range I got one nice round 7/8" group[edge to edge]..I think it will shoot decently enough for use on groundhogs to about 400 yds..I'm using the 87 gr V-max bullet in that one in ten twist 82 dollar bargain barrel..I had Fred at SSS do an SS douglas barrel for the same gun with a 1 in 12 twist chambered in 22-250..I'm hoping to use the 60 gr v-max in that barrel..I only had that barrel on the gun once for about ten shots so I can't report any groups fired with it...in the next couple of weeks I should be able to get that gun to the range...Just busy at work..But I'll have that switch barrel & my Tac 20 ready to rock before I go back to Pa for some GH hunting..mike in ct..So to answar your question..yes to a 243 for what you want..I'd have that remington done by Hart..tell him exactly what you expect from the gun..He will make that action & barrel work for you..My 6mmbr gun was done by him..That el-cheapo ADL is now a real shooting machine.
