I just won on an auction, a 1930's mauser, recently all gussied up with a douglas bbl, and timney trigger. I don't know squat about the 6mm remmy. So hit me with what you know, whats good factory bullets, best grain weight for accuracy, best twist, etc., etc. it is obviously a 6mm remmy, and the bbl is a 24 inch Douglas.

I am looking at some other strings here, I am getting the feeling that a 1/12 twist, wont stabilize 100 grainers. what is the max grainweight a 1/12 will stabilize?
I must admit, I am not sure of the twist. when I do get it in, what is a accurate way to measure the twist?
I shoot a 6mm rem in F-class. It also has a 1-12 Douglas barrel. The bullets that seem to perform the best are:
55 gr Nosler ballsitic tips pushed around 3700 fps. These work great out to 600 yrds if the wind is not blowing,
68 gr Berger flat base match for 100 and 300 yrd shooting. They print in the 3's all day long. Did not work well at 600yrds.
70gr Nosler BT. they are the go to for my 600 yrd shooting.
71gr Bergers worked really well at 600 but no longer are produced.
I have not had any luck with anything heavier than 80grs. If you want specifics on the loads let me know. I have had good luck with IMR 4831 and Varget.

Run a tight fitting patch on a jag into the bore, stop just before the jag exits at the muzzle. Place a piece of tape on the cleaning rod at the point where it enters the bore guide. Now make a mark on the tape with a marker directly on top of the rod. Now pull the rod toward the guide until the mark has made exactly one revolution. Measure the distance from the tape to the bore guide. This is your barrels rate of twist. A quality rod with a ball bearing handle is needed so the patch doesn't slip in the rifling.
rangerruck - I gotta tell you, I'm a confirmed fan of the good old 6mm Remington. I've been hunting varmints and deer with one since 1974. It's killed a mess of little furry critters and has done the job on mule deer too. When it came time for my 13 year old son to start using a centerfire, I gave my favorite little 6mm Rem 700 BDL to him and upgraded to a 3.5-10x Leupold.
He just nailed a rockchuck with a difficult 150 yard steep uphill shot. Used his deer load. I rarely load special "varmint" loads for it anymore. Usually stick with a 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip or a 100 grain Nosler Partition and a max charge of Reloader 22 in Winchester cases.
Have also used a variety of bullets from 55 - 105 grains, all with fun, interesting and usually good results. My 6mm rifle is a short action, so overall length of my rounds is limited to not much more than 2.8" and that's fine. No problem pushing a 100 gr bullet up to good hunting velocity. The various 75 grain hollowpoint bullets are very impressive on varmints.
Have had very good results from IMR 4350 and Reloader 22. No complaints about either.

thanks for that info. I just tried it out, at 50 yds, with a tiny old weaver 4x fixed scope. I guess the guys who put this baby together, really knew what they were doing as far as squaring up the receiver bridge for the ring mounts, then trueing up a bbl. I put the scope in, and shot at the dirt burm behind the 50 yd line, aiming at a depression in the dirt. Wham!!! first shot is dead on windage, and maybe 6 clicks low, adjust and fire two more times. Dead on!! So now I go for paper, and it is pumping a large hole in one spot on the paper, but it is diff to see with such a small power scope, the center of the target lines on the paper.
So since i cant disect lines within the targets, I put up 20 1 inch dots, all shoot n see spots. I take 20 trigger pulls, 20 dots, 30 seconds between shots. Twenty dots hit, bleeding their yellow juice, baby!!! So nice, when you get a precision rifle, it is hard to go back to regular factory stuff!!! Oh well. This was done with standard remmy 100 grain power points.

I too have a 6 Rem mine in a Springfield action. Only history I know about it was that it was built in Pennsylvania. The gentleman who sold the gun said his dad was a target shooter. I bought it off my boss, he didn't know what the caliber was. On a trip back from hunting quail we stopped and shot a few 6 Rem slugs through it to be sure.
The gun as I bought it had a 26" barrel hv taper like .890 at the muzzle, Canjar set trigger, birds eye maple stock, and a set of target blocks on the barrel. I placed a Unertl 30x scope on it. I had the barrel cut back to 21" from the original 26". 11 1/2 lb. I shot mostly Sierra 70 grn bt bullets, 4350 powder, CCI 450 primers. Accuracy was ok 3/4" 5 shot groups at 100yd. Gun should shoot good at 600m I will find that out later. Trading the Unertl for a Weaver and a 6 BR barrel.
Overall not bad for a gun I paid $250 for.
