Pistol scope for long range

I am looking to build a long range ground hog pistol on a rem 700 short action in 6br or something in that class. What kind of scope does anyone use for this? I looked around and pistol scopes only go to 6x and i would like to go to a higher power range.

Have a brake installed on your 6br and use a rifle scope on it that provides a generous eye relief. I have a Leupold 8.5-25 LRT scope on my 6br XP. A Nightforce or Sightron makes nice stuff too.

Burris still makes the 3x12 pistol scope, I have one on my .284XP-100..
All my long range pistols have rifle scopes on them..

I was thinking the same line as Doc about the action unless you pay the taxes and the extra BS if you can now . I just built a Xp 6br I installed a 8.5 x 25 Mark 4 and I'd still like more power that this .For years I have shot with the Higher powered N/F's and i'm use to cranking up the power when I'm allowed.

If your barrel length is over 16" and the overall length is what? 26" (you need to look the OAL up), it is still a rifle/firearm by definition, even though you will call it a specialty pistol, when using a action that started life as a rifle.
If it is a new undesignated action, you are OK.
I use rifle scopes on my SP's: http://www.handgunhunt.com/promo/membership/features/readNewArticle.php?oid=12&title=Rifle%20Scopes%20On%20Specialty%20Handguns

Thanks guys,

Preacher, beautiful collection.

What i was planning to do was to register my action as a pistol, the same way you can a ar15 lower.

I didnt know if a rifle scope would do the job or not t i have afew vortex 6.5x20s that i could start off with.

Please listen to Ernie he will steer you right and cost you money! I personally suggest a 6mm bore. My brx short barrel is amazingly efficient and deadly accurate

I have a email into russo and i also have a bartlin 6mm 14tw barrel that i can cut the ppc chamber off and rechamber to br.
As far as max distance, as far as i can shoot it.

I would like a faster twist barrel, however, that is the barrel i have on hand and it makes this build affordable.
When i shot bench rest ppc, we would run them out to 600yds with out to much problem but the wind would kill us.

Ihave also used the 3-12x Burris on some of my longer range SP's and loved it. I never did like the eye relief being so long at 12x though. For me it's difficult to use from prone off a bipod with a center grip handgun at 12x. It's fine with a rear grip though. Most of my SP's now wear rifle scopes.

Two years ago I bought my first XP-100 and it is in 243AI with a 12 twist. It had a Burris pistol scope and the boys from Specialty pistol convinced me to use a rifle scope. I put a 6.5-20 Leupold on it and never looked back. The eye relief is really critical on a pistol scope and the rifle scope is actually easier to use in my opinion, even if you are only looking through a partial field of view it does not black out. My pistol has a muzzle break and it is my second most accurate weapon, but just by a fraction of a moa! I have taken 1 boar, 1 coyote and dozens of rabbits shot in the head for the pot. 85 grain bullets are about as big as my gun likes but that is what I use in my 6mm rifles for deer and antelope anyway.
