Had this come into the shop today. Spun the barrel off. Guess he figured pipe sealant is as good as threads. IMG_6118.jpeg
Wasn’t that shocked as I have seen this guys work before. This is the type of work he does. I feel sorry for the customer.

Gonna go out on a limb and say this...... person has decided pipe dope is just enough to prevent the barrel from vibrating loose.

One reason Remington puts the heavy railroad tar shit on the threads to prevent bleed out of bluing salts. That wouldn't explain it on SS guns. Has anyone here broken down a Remarms mfg one, either blue or SS? Are they gooed up a well?

Every one I have removed had the strongest loctite I have ever had to heat to break the bond
It acts like green loctite
And takes a good 3 foot breaker bar on top of that or you risk dislocating a shoulder
(For real, I done that before, if you dont keep the heat on the threads until the loctite bubbles it will lock right back up, why cant they just use anti sieze?)

this was not a factory Remington.
Some one actually cut these threads along with a few chicken cuts. Here is a pic the crown. The gu who did this. I have taken apart a lot of his guns. Great for business For me.
