Check on ebay for pin gauge sets. You can pick up an imported set for a very good price, and also free shipping sometimes. As Matt said, they have a huge number of uses. I'd stay away from the used sets, though. You never know how they were used or what sort of condition they might be in.

Be sure they have some type of insulating handle on them. You can change the dimensions by just touching them.

Second ebay....you should be able to get a individual or set of used meyers gages pretty cheap
