Thank you. It was mentioned in passing rather than a hard and fast rule in a youtube tutorial. He said that the holes he was drilling were about 20% larger than the pillar.Where did you come across that "guideline"?
Two things are important, JMO...
NO contact between pillars and action screws.
Adequate space for bedding compound around the pillar.
Both of these requirements dictate clearances.
Obviously length is critical as well.
Wrap the bedding/locating studs with tape until a fairly snug fit is obtained inside the pillars (obviously, use release agent on the taped studs and inside the pillars before bedding); this will center the action screws in the pillars.
If cutting tubing to make your own, be sure to machine some grooves or use some other method to give the pillars a good mechanical lock to the epoxy.
