Bedding a Remington 540 single shot ?

troupe

I finished my stock and I am wondering if there would be any benefit of getting my Remington 540 single shot pillared and bedded. I have heard factory 2 screws is plenty and shoot it. Also, any recommendations on the pillar and bedding of my little rifle.

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year !

I generally pillar and bed them. I like to pull the barrel pins, set the head space and float the barrel. I glue the barrel in and usually bed the rear inch and half of barrel. They are great shooters, more you can do but will probably shoot good that way. May shoot fine as is.

Interesting. The one I owned only had a front action screw. Where the rear screw would have been was just a wood screw that held on the trigger guard.

I am going to add a couple more coats of the CP gunsaver oil and order a rail from EGW for the rail, just not sure of the dimensions on the rail. EGW offers two and my mic says it is the smaller rail. I made the faux walnut look with the knots and swirls. It does look better than the stained birch. The rifle has a very nice trigger and I have high hopes for it.

Thanks for the replies and Happy New Year.
