Pillar questions

I just received my Boyds Featherweight thumb hole stock for my Savage mdl 16 and have a couple questions about installing pillars. There isn't much room to add anything substantial in the stock so this is what I'm thinking.

I have some 3/8" ss tube that I can cut and epoxy in the stock for pillars then epoxy bed the action. About all the tube is going to do is keep from crushing the laminated wood between the bottom metal and the action. I know the action screws shouldn't be tight enough to do this but I'm just thinking worse case scenario.

Will it be worth the trouble? Should I just epoxy bed it and move on? This a hunting rifle, I just want to make sure I have a solid foundation for the action.

Thanks.

If installing pillars makes you feel good, install them. Unless your stock is made from Cedar, Cypress, Redwood or some other type of softwood, you aren't going to crush the wood with the action screws.

Plus they can look cool too. Aluminum would be better suited for the purpose, but use what you've got. Drill oversized holes smear epoxy all over them and let sit. Richard Franklin had the easiest way of you've never done one before.

Yeah. I especially like the one on a rifle I bought from a member here which was described as "Like new" and "all original". Someone at Savage must have had a really bad day:

Looks like it might be more effective than the soft magazine label glue that the Winchester custom shop used on a mod. 70 that I bought from them, in 2005.

I shoot left handed so the stock is lh and the rifle is rh so a little work was in order.

The stock.
