Pig Hunting

As I understand it parts of this Country have a feral hog problem. I would like to help by shooting some.
Where can I hunt these pigs without paying hundreds of dollars?

It's ironic isn't it? A lot of whining and complaining about problems with pigs but refusal to permit anyone to hunt them unless they pay hundreds of dollars in fees. From what I've read Texas is the only place where some no fee opportunities for pig hunting exist; except of course if you happen to have a landowner friend with a pig problem.
Sure would like to see a list of no fee feral pig hunting locations.

Florida only requires you carry a valid small or big game license..You can Google state hunting regs

there are lots of pigs in arkasas on public land. but you need dogs and frequently the dogs are frowned upon on public land.

In Texas (most of the time) Feral Hogs are shot incidental to being on an actual hunt. Example: I hunt exotics down here on "High-Fenced" ranches.. You pay for whatever animal you are seeking and get to shoot Ferals as a side bar to your "fee hunt".. I have shot MANY, MANY pigs doing exactly that! I am sure that there may be SOME places that simply want you to come and shoot>>>but I don't know any and you may have to really search for a place like that. I have a place like that for Prairie Dog hunting! But Prairie Dog hunting and Feral Hog hunting are 2 very different "concepts", if you will, to Texas land owners..

Well I shoot just a short jaunt outside of Dalhart, Texas.. You would NOT want to hunt ANYTHING up there in the winter! I have felt cold before in many places! I am originally from Buffalo, New York and it gets COLD up there, as the present weather shows.. However, when you get on the prairie and it is well below freezing, with the wind HOWLING all the time, you will find the definition of cold!! LOL!! I have been up there in June when driving into Dalhart we were looking at 104 degrees. That night, a front moved thru and dropped the temps down to the 40's, then it went back up to the 60's. A day later, back up to over 100! That's Dalhart.. Do that times 10 in the winter and you too will wait for the spring!! LOL!!!

Hoier, I think you would be correct in 95pct of Texas... But the northern panhandle is another country! That is the COLDEST place I have ever experienced! Remember, that area is just a few short hours to Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. Being on the "grasslands" has it's own form of misery in the summer AND the winter! Hehehehe..

I was in Texas last Christmas and it snowed. the people were freaking out like it was the End Times! I on the other hand had a Short sleeve shirt on and Shorts! If you can still breath the air without gasping it ain't cold!

ShootDots is right...the panhandle is completely different from the rest of the state, weather-wise. It's so open than anything can blow in at any time faster than you think. A few whisps of clouds at 10 am is a full-boogie hair-straightener for lunch.

Feral hog hunting is a growing business in Texas. Used to be, getting a guided hunt for hogs was unheard of. They were a nuisance, and that was that. Land owners & locals wanting some chops in the freezer would take care of some, but that accounted for 1/4 of 1%...maybe? Nowdays, it's a high-dollar business catering to anyone with any budget. Best bet is to try to track down some landowners, or get in good with locals who can point you in the right way. I asked around a while back for another member here, & the guided prices I was hearing were pretty stiff. Some of these guys have gotten savvy to the popularity of hog-hunting & are charging accordingly.

I would recommend you take your family to Disney in Florida While they are there you call a outfitter and go hog hunting. Most hunt are about $200.00 to 300.00. Larry

Laupa, you can hunt pigs in the central valley on public land also Hunter-Leggeit has hunting but you have to buy their pass. Look in the foot hills around oak brush, you do need to do some home work.

Being from WI I find this very interesting. Today's high was 12, it's -3 now. Never thought of Texas as being cold.

I'm going to do this myself.

In Florida where I live we have several Management areas. Some are free other charge.
Most of the land is privately owned if you don't know someone they more then likely they won't let you hunt. Trespassing is something you don't want to get caught doing. Larry

It's all relative. We would feel like wearing shorts if tomorrow it was 30 degrees. Come the first September nite and it goes down to 30 degrees, we'll be freezing. Just takes time to get the body adjusted! ;D
