Well, another reason to get a bigger safe. The project was finished this week after several months of ordering, emails and waiting. It is:

Pierce short repeater action
Bartlein 10" twist, 26" MTU contour barrel
H-S PST026
Pierce 10 MOA mount
Burris Signature Zee 30mm High rings
Nightforce NXS 12-42 MIL-DOT

Next week, I will see what really matters when I take it to the range.

very nice! why such a big scope for a .308?

My eyes are not as good as they once were and the barrel is intended for heavy bullets, 210 Bergers and 208 A-Max. I have shot the .308 effectively to 1000 yards, although there are certainly cartridges that perform better. It may not be the final scope on the rifle but it will certainly do what needs to be done. After assembling it, the same thought occurred to me.

I have an old Leupold M2a with the M118 ballistic reticle that would be fine but the lack of target knobs and side focus eliminates it. It will stay on the SSG where it has been for 22 years.

What would be your suggestion if we agreed that it was an 800 yard rifle?
