Pictures of your Lathe Setup

That was not an easy or inexpensive project!
I agree with that, 87t of dirt clay and rock dug out.
Now we have a full concrete floor and no dirt floor in the basement, it makes it drier and gives more floor space for a workshop.
This pic gives a better idea of how much was dug out, I had to widen the footing to make the footing wide enough for the revised plans, the footing ended up past the footing for the pile.Dsc_8411s.jpg

We do what we have to do for what we want to do.

They are very nice Pete, but a little lighter machine than the 10EE.
I know BUT, I have seen a number of Youtubes on the horror show that is the electronics inside them. I have watched Keith Rucker's series on installing modern electronics in one of his and it wasn't exactly easy. No question, they are a masterpiece of Cast Iron.

Pete, I heard about a "horse" with horns! What other lathes were far enough along in the late 40's and 50's had electronics? Jackie has updated theirs and others have also. If you go to the Practical Machinest and go to the Monarch forum you can read the real story.

OK Butch, Thanks. I will do that. I got addicted to Youtube long ago so am not very versed on much else.

Pete, Mine was a 1956 model and I bought it from a friend. When he bought it from a college shop he purchased some electronics at a great discount if he needed them. He did replace some resistors when he got the machine. I got all of the things that he bought and I never needed them.

I might as well add my humble home shop equipment. I started out with the little Southbend 10K and the small Enco Mill you see in the pictures. I had Jackie Schmidt over one evening after a benchrest match and he informed me he couldn't even turn brass on a lathe that small!! After seeing his lathes I know why he said that:) I now have three lathes and two milling machines. Maybe Jackie's comment had a bigger impact on me than I thought!

Maybe I should send this one to Jackie for a paper weight:

Found it in a junk shop for $5

I have a similar lathe to yours. Is that a metric chart on the gear cover? Mine has both Imperial and Metric charts on it with a set of transposition gears (100/127). Mine is a '58, same year of ME!;)
I have the same rig too... but no metric. I really like that little lathe.
