picture of new 30-06

View attachment 1055322 View attachment 1055316 This is my first custom rifle 30-06 30" Pac-Nor 3 groove barrel with Serengeti chamber Grizzly muzzle brake and 7-42X56 Leupold VX 6 scope. Deviant Action. Manners T4AF stock . 337" chamber. Going to sight her in tomorrow morning and start working up loads

Nice Rifle, great cartridge ! On my bucket list too. Just a short Historical comment from days gone by among us boys who roamed the woodlands with our BB guns aspiring to be able to one day own just two of the most coveted rifles ( 12 gauge and 30-06) which would satisfy every possible hunting need as well as provide protection from our imagined Rouge Elephants and Grizzly Bears that might appear from the distance at any moment. Finally one day an older neighbor boy who had them let us shoot a round from his 30-06 and that was the greatest thing for us all to experience. There was nothing better than the 30-06 ! I was 10.

Steve I agree with you one the nostalgia of the 06. Still one of my favs. I have owned several. It may not be the perfect white tail round with all of the new rounds out but still would be my go to if I had to settle on one caliber from here on. I have taken at least a dozen white tails with them over the years and never had one un-recovered. I wouldn’t even be able to guess the number of pigs they have induced slumber on.

Awesome rig man I bet it will be a sure nuff shooter.

Excellent looking rig. Let us know how she shoots.
Just got back from sighting her in. The 155gr Hornady Palma shot good with the same point of aim as the 210 gr Berger and Sierra 210gr. I had some fliers that messed up my groups a little the trigger was set a 9.8 OZ. and felt way to heavy for the rifle so I just dropped down to 4.6 OZ. I think that will help with the fliers. IMG_0799.JPGIMG_0801.JPGIMG_0800.JPG The first one is the 155gr Palma 4 shots. the next one is 210 berger 6 shots and last is the 210 Sierra 6 shots . I think that is a keeper. Same load as my other 30-06 with 208gr ELD bullets. Got to get rid of the fliers but I think this rifle will shoot good once I figure my hold. Different from my other 30-06 with a XLR Element chassis. I ran the Berger same as the Sierra. 15 thousands off I guess I will have to turn into a JAMMER to make the Bergers work.

What are using to fuel those heavies?
With a 06' that'll shoot like that there's only one thing to say.
"It will kill"

IMR 4350 51.8grs in the summer and 53grs in the winter. That has been working with the 208gr ELD M and the 210's so far. The 51.8 gr. load is light but the 53grs in the summer is just starting to show a little flattening of primers. Both are accurate if you do your part as always

Congratulations Steve, what a nice rifle and great groups. I’m a big Defiance action fan, shooting a Rebel but really like that Deviant with built in rail. Is that a 20MOA? I see they make them in 0,10,and 20MOA, can’t decide which would be best for 600 yard and under rifle.

Thank you. You only live once so why not a 30-06? It's a 20MOA rail. My scope has only 55 MOA so I think 1000 yards would be close. I need 30 MOA to get there. I have plenty now.

Bergers will jump also...you don’t have to jam. Just play with seating depth until you find what it likes.
IMG_0802.JPG IMG_0804.JPG IMG_0805.JPG Thanks, you were right! I loaded the Berger 210's just touching and no more flyers. I tried the 195gr TMK .005 off like I read on this site and they shot really good. They were my first group and the flyer was me not ready for my newly adjusted 4OZ. trigger. Way different than at 9 OZ. Then I was able to eliminate all the flyers with the 4 OZ. trigger from my first outing with this new rifle. Thanks for all the helpful advice.
