Made the annual trip to shoot prairie dogs in North Dakota.
*Edit Sept 25 - Oct 4 incl drive + "weather" days. The weather turned, so a short trip. 4 shooting days *
A bit late in the year, but I needed to cut a few cords of firewood first.
My Idaho route crossed Montana ( Salmon ID - Wisdom - Wise River - Butte - Billings - Miles City - Baker ) to N. Dakota. 1.5 days.
Hard by the Yellowstone River for 200 miles (?). Stunning.
The route beyond Billings heads east at Miles City--
HWY 12, which climbs up the badlands and levels out on the high desert west of Baker, Montana.
Shooting is on the Little Missouri Grasslands, a ways north of Marmarth. Teddy Roosevelt's ranch was up here, until the big die up in 1886-87. It has not changed much since, I'd guess. Fort Dilts, ND was a harsh reality. https://www.history.nd.gov/historicsites/dilts/index.html
