North Dakota PD shooting July 2021

I headed east from ID thru Billings, MT and up to the Little Missouri National Grasslands. Mid-July. There was through smoke throughout MT and it was hot - and stayed hot.

Very little smoke - once in this part of ND. I thought the heat would keep other shooters away and I was correct in this regard. Here = East of Baker MT and north of Marmarth, ND; up towards Ft. Dilts.

In the past, I have slept in the truck, outside, etc. and now have a camper which is a blessing, but adds logistics. I drove this rig to within 1/2 mile of the PD fields.

It was 75-102 deg. -- and the AC in my truck was out of order the entire trip and the AC in my shiny trailer did not work. I did bring a small fan and that was a blessing.

I also brought my Mtn bike, but it was too darn hot to ride.
I used a 22-250, 223, 6X47 Lapua, 22-243, 22 BR and some others.

The wind was the determining factor as to what rifles I carried out. It was a fun trip and I made a couple of longer shots :).

View looking west towards badlands / Montana not too far away.
View thru Sako Mod 75 22-250 Leupold varmint reticle. I think this was 95 yds.
NcStar shooting mat, new for this trip and well made. Great value for the $, easy to use and roll up.

Thanks for sharing your hunt.
Nice pics.Looks like a fun time was had.
Did you happen to get any Dots pretzels while up in ND?:p

Did a schedule restriction cause you to pick this time window?

I tend to enjoy shooting my dogs when the grass is green and the pups are small and even greener. Just curious.
This is how I like 'em. These were 18 yards from me.

18 yards?! :) I went to ND in July kinda on a whim, honestly. By the time I prepped, readied the trailer, waited for some items from Amazon, loaded some ammo, it was mid-July. The mud - if it rains up there - is no joke and I hoped it would be dry and no other shooters.

Agreed. I guess the downside is the pups are tiny. Makes the shooting more challenging…err…fun.

That looks like a cool trip! Is there much public land with good PD hunting?
No Public lands. Poor Hunting, 45mph winds. 107 Deg heat, No place to stay. People are very grumpy. And Very German. pick another state.

(OK this might be a self serving, selfish post that only supports my very own desire to have Dog towns all to my self) But the statement is possibly very true. LOL

Very nice.

Was blessed with the opportunity to PD hunt in ND in June. Hunted in the National Grasslands just outside Theodore Roosevelt NP (southern unit). What a beautiful area.

I used to make an annual trip south of there and stay in Lemmon, SD. Love the scenery around there, especially as the sun was going down. Just beautiful.
