Peterson brass vs. Lapua

While these are interesting, it doesn't tell the whole story. The metallurgy of one vs the other makes a huge difference.
Agree. I just haven't seen any good info regarding that aspect of their cases.

My very fist batch of Peterson brass for my .308 performed quite well. Only I had a problem after 7 firings where case head separation was about to happen. I couldn't fault the brass as I had determined that my sizing die wasn't set up properly. I'm on my second batch that only has 4 firings now and they're looking real good. It'll be quite a while before getting a lot of firings on them as I mainly use Lapua, and now that I've picked up some Alpha, am curious how they all compare. Time will tell. ;) :D

Alpha is the bees knees. I know they have the famous BRA problem, that I can't try to explain away, but the stuff that works works awesome.

Somewhere I read or watched a video saying alpha changed some of their manufacturing a while back. The stuff produced now is better than the old stuff. Not sure, never tried it. Just throwing it out there.

Their original .308 brass, I believe, would last forever. I have a bunch.. the pockets are still tighter than a go gauge after 50 hard firings. Let it be known that brass makers can make brass that lasts forever. It's a choice. :)

When I first started with the 260AI I was shooting Lapua 260 rem brass, available only in LRP. I was loosing primer pockets after 5-6 firings, and two of those I consider fire forming. Expensive brass to get 3-4 loads on before it won't hold primers. I switched to Peterson 260SRP, didn't notice any difference in case weight SD, little less capacity, and I needed another half thou of neck tension, but all thats easy enough to do. I tend to shoot the same 75 cases over and over for a barrel, rather than working through several hundred. First batch of Peterson is still perfectly fine and usable with 12x firings on it. Current batch has 10-11x on it in my new barrel. I can't properly compare LRP to SRP longevity, but the fact that at 9x firings i was having difficulty seating Ginex primers tells me that the pockets just dont grow. Switched back to 7-1/2's and they still seat tight at now going on 12x.

I'm currently stocked with 500-600 Peterson SRP cases, and not enough barrels to shoot it out, with two new barrels on the shelf and only 750-850 rounds on my current barrel.

Every brass manufacturer has had certain chamberings give issues. ADG had issues with PRC in the beginning. Alpha had Dasher issues. Peterson had their own, too.

Be sure your die matches your chamber and your brass fits your die, no matter what brand it is. Many records were shot with Rem, Win, LC, Norma, FC, etc.

I’ve used Lapua for years in my Dasher, bought some Peterson, except for the fact that I run a .2704 neck, which required neck turning on the Petersons’, it’s pretty nice brass.
Peterson recommends a .272 neck to avoid having to turn their necks.

I just purchased 200 pieces of Peterson 6br to make 6bra from. I needed to neck turn them because my chamber is .268". I used Peterson before in a 243 Win and found the primer pockets to be VERY tight. The pockets on the 6br were tight, but not nearly as tight.

I used Alpha brass in my 6 Dasher and was on the 6th or 7th loading when I sold the gun and include the brass. Primer pockets were still tight and no other issues. I have nothing at all bad to say about Alpha.

I did a weight study on 21 randomly selected cases from the 200. These were neck turned, fire-formed and reprimed:
