Peterson Brass QC

My Dad bought some Peterson 6 Creedmoor brass as he wanted some headstmaped 6 Creedmoor brass with large rifle primers.

About 25 of the 100 pieces he has will not fit into a standard shell holder, I’m unsure of the brand. However Lapua and all other brass he had for that rifle, fits in this shell holder.

The Peterson also won’t fit in a couple others as well.

He’s going to be contacting Peterson tomorrow but curiousness got the best of me and I wanted to know what others have seen with Peterson.

I’ve read nothing but good reviews and have a feeling this is something of an anomaly.

I’m looking to buy some of the headstanped 6x47 and want to make sure it’s on par with Lapua.

Purchased 50 pcs. 260 Rem with SRP. On the 5th loading with it and really liking it.

Compare the case rim measurements to that specified in SAAMI for the parent 6.5 Creedmoor case. You may find there to be a dimensional issue with the shell holder.

I just purchased some of their blemished brass and all 150 pcs. fit fine.

I don’t believe it’s a shell holder issue as all other brands of brass fit in it and it’s only 1/4 of the peterson cases. He also tried the suspect cases in at least two other holders and they had the same problem.

I’m positive this is some kind of weird anomaly with these pieces but just wanted to get the low down from the choir so to speak.

I’ve got 400 pcs of Peterson 6XC brass and have not had any problems with it at all. Really like the brass . Have LRP and SRP brass.

The 6x47 and 6br is GTG. No problems with multiple firings.

Off the top of my head I don’t know.

I would guess an RCBS.

He tried a few shell holders he has with the same result on the suspect brass.

The choir was able to figure that out but it couldn't be more unclear to me. I have one batch of 6.5CR LRP and it is perfect. Good luck.

Thickness of the rim.

You might want to measure the various brass rims to see how they compare. SAAMI spec is at .054". So, I'd check those Peterson's that don't fit to see what the measurement is. Then, if they're out of spec, I'd expect Peterson to replace them.

I have somewhat of the same issue as well. I just bought 100 .260 Rem brass for a .260 Ackley build. One box of 50 work and fit fine, the other box, about half are tight but will still fit if you hold your mouth just right in both a Redding shell holder and RCBS.

Make sure you have the correct shell holder or the choir don't sing all at once.

When Peterson brass first hit the market I ordered some and had a problem with them. The primer pockets were so tight I could not seat a primer properly. They had me send the brass back. A few days later they called me and acknowledged that the primer pockets were overly tight. A few days later I had some different brass sent and it was fine.
