Peterson 284 Brass

Yes, they have committed to buying 10s of thousands of the boxes they chose to use to get the best price possible. SAAMI and CIP are the only standards so that's what they use. Custom boxes for each order would increase the cost of the product more than it is now.

The boxes they use now are high quality and protect your brass and loaded ammunition. If you're frustrated, pull together a description and a couple of pictures then run an ad here. My guess is that they would sell quickly and you could use the money for the size boxes you want to fit your ammunition. :D
All I was doing was pointing out that compared to Lapua boxes which DO hold competition ready ammo, theirs don't always do so. Their next size up box works perfectly since it's the same size but just a hair taller and they were happy to send me a couple which as I said was great customer service. It was just surprising to me the original boxes are too short, that's all.

I wasn't disparaging your reason or answer.:) I was pointing out the reasoning they used to arrive at the box size decision for mass purchases.

I wonder though if, when you order the next time, you could request the boxes the next size up after revisiting your previous CS experience? They might just re-box some for you if the size of the order could support it.

The boxes speak to perception and quality. They take the extra time and cost to handle the brass in these boxes preventing the necks and shoulders from dents, dings and other shipping errors. The public perception of the quality goes up substantially with this type of presentation. Take a look at the Hornady A-Tip bullet packaging if you want to see this go to the extreme. :(

Now, we all know that bagging brass is infinitely cheaper for the general public. And for those customers who much prefer cheap over quality, the bags would be a boon. But we also see the deficiencies when good brass (or even bad brass) is shipped haphazardly in plastic bags in oversize boxes without packing material. The reject rate can be excessively high and although the original price is very reasonable, it makes the adjusted price less than satisfactory. :(

I have had great luck with buying Norma brass in bulk because they understand what it takes to pack 2,000 pieces of brass to deter damage from shipping through folks like UPS and FED-X. It's a plastic bag but the box is triple wall and sized to control the full bag without a lot of shifting. Just a thought.

Interesting! I'd noticed before that Norma manages to keep its cases in good order despite being shipped in plastic baggies.

I do like the Peterson box though - nice touch. They've not been long here (the UK) and are as expensive as Lapua. (In fact with recent drops of our Pound against the US Dollar, I'd not be surprised to see future deliveries turn out a little dearer.) I bought some 260 Rem (large primer) Peterson cases and was impressed by them.
