Perfect Predator rifle?

I have a Remington 700 in 223, 20” barrel, KRG Bravo chassis.. Going to make another like it in 6x47 Lapua.

Fancy is not required for hunting.

I have hunted predators since the 70's, walking out from the truck and making stands is typical style of hunting. Equipment we carry is Folding stool, caller, rifle, tail skinner, brush hand trimmer on the belt with knife.

Since most predator shots using a caller are 85-150 yards, a rifle that shoots a 1" group is more than adequate.

My criteria for a walking gun is fairly light, 8.5 lbs scoped, accurate, and adequate horse powder to hit a coyote behind the diaphragm and kill it on the spot.

The perfect rifle for me is a Cooper M38 221 Fireball. As others have said previously, I like this rifle because it is light and quick handling. I had bought a XP100 and fell in love with the 221 Fireball because it is a versatile and efficient cartridge. I only hunt predators that I have called so all of my shots are much inside 100 yds,, usually inside 50 yds. I don't like to carry extra weight so that is my chief concern. I got the Cooper M38 because of the super small action and light weight. My rifle with a Leupold 6.5-20 weighs 7lb. 4oz. The scope is overkill but when I bought the rifle, I had the scope lying around so I used it on this rifle. It comes in handy when shooting ground squirrels.

I have a very light weight Rem 700 LVSF in .221 Fireball also, and these things deliver plenty of punch!

Bought a case of Rem 50gr AccutTips initially, but now I'm loading 40NBT's in Lapua brass.

What twist do you have? Mine is 1:7.75. Im shooting the 108 eldm but was thinking about trying the 87 vmax out since the 108 do a lot of damage but does not kill coyotes right away. Rips them up and got to make another shot to put down. Awful sight.

For those of us that do a lot of walking to get to remote areas what would you choose as your perfect predator rifle and cartridge combination? Coyotes, bob cat, lynx, mountain lion, and wolf could all be on the list of predators to hunt?

Love my Rem Model 7 Predator. Have carried a bunch of different rifles across the fields chasing coyotes but I keep coming back to this one with 58V max. Bang Flop with no exit hole.

Mine is a WBY Vanguarg .257 Roy with a fluted 24" barrel. A 90 grain Sierra Blitzking at 3700 shoots flat enough and hits hard enough.

Many guns have come and gone, but my blueprint hasn't changed much through the years.

These three cover a lot of bases, and leave little room for improvement, #3 contour barrels, McMillan Classic stocks, Nightforce scopes in Seekins R & B's for the ultimate in reliability, at a touch over 8 lbs.

@alf knows what brass to grab when it goes on sale, that's for sure!
Someone once made a comment regarding advice on what caliber to choose, and he said go with the one you can get good brass for....
